Sex side effects

I wasn't sure which topic this would go best for... tmi incoming. After longterm relationship breakup, first time after that I had sex with a guy, I got UTI, got antibiotics that gave me thrust. So recovered from that and when I had sex again, looks like I got a spot of vaginal acne! In my previous relationship nothing like this happened (although we didn't have sex often).

I guess my question is, any tips or is this another fun thing that happens to ladies as they approach perimenopause?

Hmm very unfortunate indeed. My well wishes. Being of the male persuasion I haven't a clue. Interesting.

Spots on/ around the vagina would cause me concern. I would get a doctor to have a look.
could you be allergic to latex?

Wakemeup17 · 10/04/2024 09:50

Is it a vagina acne or an STD?

blooming24 · 10/04/2024 10:34

I'm getting it checked, but it looks more of vaginal spot than STD
Latex allergy - I've not had any issues before unless it could develop later in life, I'll look into it thanks

If you are perimenopausal I would maybe think about seeing your GP for some vaginal oestrogen

Franwith2and1 · 14/04/2024 21:34

I have a long story but will tell it short. I had breast cancer then immediately menopause. I have had terrible dryness and utis (used to suffer but hadn’t for a while I have to use vaginal oestrogen, lube lots of and tends to be non flavoured ones, cranberry, buckwheat you name it. I still suffer but it’s manageable. I also have a low dose antibiotic which I get from the GP
I’m sure you’re not as extreme as me but it happens with menopause unfortunately
the dryness causes itching also 🥺

blooming24 · 16/04/2024 21:04

@Franwith2and1 thanks for sharing your story, hope you're doing better now! I'm very conscious of what is possible perimenopause symptom, so this did cross my mind.

I came on today to post a very similar question. Forgive the unavoidable humble-brag. I've been seeing someone new, there's a bit of a distance so we've met up every couple of weeks for extended sex marathons. He is very well-endowed, and every time I have ended up with one or more of thrush/BV/cystitis. Hygiene is not an issue, we are both very clean. Is there anything I can do about this? Or is this just the price I have to pay?

StickSeason · 19/04/2024 23:14

HRT may be the answer. And an antibiotic to take directly after sex. Had the same after a second spring fling and wasn't on HRT. Now it's not an issue thanks to the patches - and the lack of flinging at the moment!

resuwen · 20/04/2024 21:43

God, I'm only 43!!

StickSeason · 20/04/2024 23:01

I know! Peri menopause is a bitch but better a patch than years of UTIs! I was about the same age as you when it started and honestly sorting out the hormones was a game changer. It's all to do with the oestrogen levels dropping and things getting a bit more fragile so more prone to UTIs after a good session 🙄

MsDFye · 26/04/2024 23:44

Sorry if this is really obvious, but you absolutely must pee as soon as possible after sex to flush any bacteria away from your urethra. Otherwise, yes, you will get UTI's. Apparently it's even more common when you haven't had sex for a while or are in a new relationship hence the term 'honeymoon cystitis'.

resuwen · 27/04/2024 13:47

Thank you MsDFy, I do always do this, but I think it has minimal effect when you are going for hours on end.

Following my research I have started taking some women's probiotics and have a PH balanced intimate wash. Fingers crossed that does the trick! I will report back.

resuwen · 01/05/2024 08:59

I can report that following a dose of fluconazole, a daily probiotic and a PH neutral wash, my undercarriage is a great deal happier. 🥳

New man is visiting soon though so that will be the acid test!
