The sex thread

I’m a casual observer of the sex thread. It occurs to me that what generally happens is people pose a question and , largely, the same band of people offer their advice (you know who you are!). We don’t even know what they look like!
So it’s a bit like listening to Gardeners Question Time ….only with genitals.
Just a thought.

Does it matter what “they” look like?

It's the same as any other thread on this site. Why does it matter what people look like?

Depending on who you ask, its either

A) a small group of hairy handed perverts all changing names/sexes and getting off on what gets posted on here

or

B) a group of people who enjoy sex and talking about it, offering/asking for advice etc in the same way, I suspect, that the gardening topic, or the tack room, or the pet topic (as examples) are likely to have the same posters with those interests

or mainly B with an unfortunate small following of A who tend to get attracted to adult talk about sex.

And, I really don't think you want to know what I look like!

C) people who don't think there should be a sex thread, who mock genuine posters and accuse them of being school kids or men in disguise, yet are still avid sex thread readers.

What are you talking about? The C's are a diligent and conscientious elite group of unpaid, volunteer moderators who selflessly apply themselves to the task of upholding standards and keeping filth off the site. We should all be grateful to them.

As someone who posts on a number of different threads, including this one, and does not name cahnge, I like to think that on MN generally, I've helped or guided a few people along the way.

I've also been told elsewhere on MN that they had names for girls like me when they were at school.

I don't understand when people use the sex thread when it is used for "boasting" (s)exploits.

There used to be a longer period that you had to be registered before you could commnet here and personally I would like to shat restored.

....like to see that restored, perhaps?

We definitely need more talk about the tack room, even at risk of being off-topic.

I trust I'm a b) if I contribute I stick to things I know about (which isn't very much.) But other people's replies are always very informative and it's worth wading through the sea of prissy c) to read them.

I give advice on the sex threads because I like to think I know what I'm talking about. Not much embarrasses me and I don't judge others. It's as simple as that. If I knew about gardening I'd be hanging out on those threads instead. I suspect the same is true for most regular posters here.

Obviously being a 5'4", size 10, redheaded brat means everyone should listen to me! 😉

Well, it's always hard to tell who people are over the internet, and the anonymity it affords is an advantage to some. Whilst it's hard to vouch for the identity of every poster, the issues raised seem to resonate with the problems, dilemmas and delights I encounter in everyday life and casual conversation. So in that sense it's 'realistic'. I suppose what keeps me looking in and occasionally contributing is the fact that it's more interactive, and not as slick and overly editorialised as a lot of media directed at women, and in that sense it feels closer to actual experiences and opinions than what you might read on the 'Cosmopolitan' website.
