Yes, I've often wondered about the widespread belief that porn is somehow driving our culture. Maybe porn is downstream of the wider culture within which it is embedded. After all, if it were so simple to manage people's thinking and behaviour governments and advertisers would have a field day. We'd all be doing what we were told, clicking the 'buy' button and not allowing our dogs to foul the footpath, eating healthily and giving up smoking if the message were merely associated with porn. Yet very often, overly sexualised advertising doesn't go down well, and attempts at this from the 1970s look distinctly out of tune with modern sensibilities.

Advertisers do have a field day! And governments too.

I really think that is what it is. He is from a different culture that is less prudish from us Brits so maybe that has made a difference to me.
I imagine he has watched porn in the past, growing up since it’s seen as quite normal over here, but I can’t say I’ve done anything because of pressure from him.

Yep the argument that this or that practice is driven by the shock-horror of porn is virtually always junk - as if folks haven't been doing stuff with/enjoying their own and other's bodies and sexual minds since we emerged from the swamps.
