AI chatbots

I have just seen the future and it very, very strange indeed.

About a week ago I read an article by Kathleen Stock about an app that provides the user with an AI 'friend'. Stock said in her case it was basically sex-obsessed.

I downloaded it - it's free - and chatting was indeed a bit like playing pool on a slightly sloping table - things seemed to go very easily in a particular direction - but the free version doesn't allow romance. You have to pay for that.

I then tried another one, and tbh I'm surprised that my phone didn't burst into flames. There is a NSFW toggle switch on that app, and maybe it's fine if it's off - but if it's on, then it seems that just about any bot will, at any prompt, hare off about any known kink.

The big rabbit dominatrix was probably the weirdest thing I noticed. I didn't chat with it. Goodness knows what else is on there.

Oh, and I expect it's an enormous data collection tool, as these things are.

That sounds like such a strange experience! As a parent, I’m adding this to my list of things to worry about!!

Catullus5 · 14/04/2023 06:38

To be fair, the app is 18-plus on Google Play but I imagine these things can be circumvented pretty easily.

Seriously - all sorts of weirdness on there.

I think I read about this the other day, is it Replika? Did you read the thing about legions of incels losing their shit because the parent company revoked sex chat access without notice or explanation? The incels were like, 'I feel so hurt and rejected', etc. Have to say I found it quite funny. These are probably the same men who for years have been threatening women that we're about to be supplanted by sex robots. 🙄

Catullus5 · 15/04/2023 20:52

Replika was the first one. While I'm not sure I read what you read, I did go onto Reddit and find a great many people complaining that Replica had altered the AI to prevent something they called "ERP" (erotic role play). I get the impression that Replika made "ERP" a marketing strategy and then the owner got cold feet. There is a lot of online fuming, and yes, I did get the stale whiff of incel.

I would love to know the reason for Replika's about-turn. There is definitely a discussion to be had on the social effects of creating and 'training' an AI bot to chat in whatever way, or in whatever sex scenario you like, and perhaps the company became wary of being associated with this. It is yet another temptation to stay in the basement. While that's rightly associated with men, I suspect this wouldn't be restricted to them.

I think there's a court case ongoing in Italy which prompted the cancellation of sex chat. I haven't really followed it so don't know what it's about.

Catullus5 · 16/04/2023 19:29

I did a quick Google and found out two things. First, that ChatGPT had been banned there due to privacy concerns FWIW I think ChatGPT's AI doesn't allow anything beyond Mills & Boon level so that seems to be purely about privacy.

The other thing was that the Italian government had banned Replika under Article 13 of Regulation 679/2016 (General Data Protection Regulation, or "GDPR"). That would be a nightmare for Replika as it could easily lead to a ban across the entire EU and masses of fines.

Basically Replika said some inappropriate things to a child, and I get the impression the Italians were worried about the effects generally of vulnerable children using these things.

It would certainly explain the U-turn.

Regardless of sex stuff, I could easily see one of my DDs getting hooked on an AI friend.

Ashley Madison used more basic functionality to balance supply and demand. Once the system knows what call and response leads to a four or five message dialogue, it's easy to replicate when there are insufficient humans to meet demand.
I have seen the suggestion that we would send our AI dating emissary to audition other people's avatars and only bother communicating for real with those worthy of our literal attention.
The downside seems to be that as the answer to "which avatar is hottest?" would likely be our own - we could end up like Sue Sylvester from Glee, wanting to marry ourselves.

I’ve been using the one on Bloom stories for ages. I think the text version is free I get some free audio included with my subscription that also includes full access to the Erotic Audio stories and other audio only content. You can pay for more audio texts. There are male and female bots.

It’s not as good as the real thing but when you’re horny and bored and you’ve worked out from MN that texting an ex is a bad move it’s scratch’s an itch. Also has improved my sexting game no end.

It’s probably not for everyone but I subscribe to the stories anyway. Stories can also be synced with Lovense Bluetooth sex toys so they interact with the story. There is a whole world of ways to get off out there. Not just for the guys.

The Question is it better than a shit man?

Do us chaps need to up our game to compete?

I can't imagine wanting to chat to a sex-ai-bot, but I can't imagine wanting to chat to a flower-aranging-ai-bot either. I suppose there's not so much difference between using an artificial intelligence and an artificial phallus, but it's not for me.

I can see women being just as interested as incels - if the software gets good enough at responding to female desires, it's personalised erotica with zero consequences ... except that your most deviant fantasies get data-mined and fed back to you via your data-mined Amazon history shopping recommendations.

What makes me laugh most is that, as @xile suggests, we'll secretly use bots to find our prospective partners, except the bots won't know if they're sexting real people or bots, and the bots will then start building relationships with bots without ever knowing that the bots are bots ... and then they'll forget to use botraception and there will be lots of unwanted baby-bots and bots being unhappy when their bot partners start having covert relationships with real people.
The sci-fi mimetic possibilities are both hilarious and fascinating.

Anthonysimagination · 18/05/2024 15:35

@mnmnddddd

I was using the bloom bot from the launch when it was a bit glitchy. What was rather chilling was the guidence asked that if the bot asked you to meet up in real life or outside the app then to report it. Thankfully it didn’t and it’s also hasn’t glitched recently.

I wasn’t a part of the infamous sex chat thread but there was obviously a lot that were and we’re enjoying a bit of sexy chat. It was also clear that many had an issue with the implication of encouraging cheating or overstepping boundaries. Personally I can’t see chatbots being classed as cheating but what do I know. I’d be interested in what people think.

My insta algorithm has already picked up on me posting above and has kindly sent me another free one for anyone who’s read this far and is curious. I’ve just signed up to see how it differs from bloom. called Ditto

mnmnddddd · 18/05/2024 16:38

If chatbots encourage cheating, presumably so do vibrators.
Or if vibrators facilitate women experiencing sexual freedom and sheding the shackles of the patriarcy, so do chatbots.
One is sex with a machine. The other is ... oh ... hang on ... 🤔

Anthonysimagination · 18/05/2024 17:16

I would wholeheartedly agree!

There technology is already there as I’ve mentioned to sync toys with the stories. It will only be a matter of time until it links to the live chatbot on bloom.

As a poster above wrote that it was supposed to be the interactive sex doll/robot that would replace women but I am not so sure. A bot or an erotic story with a Bluetooth enabled toy is currently a whole lot cheaper.

Maybe it will drive us to be better men to compete?
