Found something of sensitive nature in neighbour's bin

Last week my neighbour said I could use her recycling bin as mine was overflowing from Christmas stuff etc. In the cardboard recycling bit, I couldn't help but notice a box which was a HIV test. It was empty. I'm sure she wouldn't have wanted me to see that. I don't really know what to do?

How would you feel If you saw this? Would you be freaked out by it?

You do absolutely nothing. You have no information on how that got there - it may be hers, a guests, a passer-by may have dropped it in her bin. You put it out of your mind and move on.

HIV is nothing to be “freaked out” about any more. Thank goodness - modern medicine and understanding means we’ve moved on from the darkness of the 80’s.

Unicorn717 · 08/01/2023 22:35

Why would you be freaked out by it? At least she (or whoever put it in the bin) is getting checked.

KinkyMom · 08/01/2023 22:36

Why would you be freaked out about it unless you touched it or were an extremely judgmental asshole (sorry not sorry!) who jumps to conclusions about things you have little to no information about? Are you having sex with your neighbours? If not then you shouldn’t worry and it’s certainly none of your business as you will not catch it!

My husband had to take an HIV test when he worked at a convenience store because someone improperly disposed of a needle and it cut him through a trash bag. My sister had to take one because she is a nurse and a patient who was infected flailed during an IV insert and it poked her.

Lucky neither of them were infected! Both of these were freak situations that were out of their control. The tests were a precaution. And rummaging through your neighbours garbage makes you look like a busy body.

AbsolutePixels · 08/01/2023 22:58

This is absolutely none of your business. You don't have to 'do' anything about it.

Nottelling15 · 08/01/2023 23:03

So you saw an empty box you can't catch anything from a box
Say nothing and do nothing

PinotPony · 09/01/2023 11:40

Freaked out by what exactly? A person looking after their sexual health..?

You sound incredibly ignorant and judgemental. Many many people do home HIV tests, for a variety of reasons. It doesn't mean they have HIV or are druggies / prostitutes!

Pbi but most prostitutes use protection in this country and are actually a lot less likely to have stis for this reason.

HIVpos · 11/01/2023 17:02

Why do you thing you shouldn't have seen that and what do you think you're supposed to do? There will be a lot more empty packets being thrown away next month when it's HIV testing week.

I have HIV and I throw my empty bottles in the recycling bin...

HappyCrappyNewYear · 11/01/2023 21:38

Strangest thread I’ve seen for a while. And why is this in the sex section?? May I please suggest you butt out of your neighbour’s life.

daytriptovulcan · 11/01/2023 23:07

Just forget about it. None of your business You ll hardly catch anything living next door, so get real.

StarlightLady · 12/01/2023 14:22
  1. Sexual health is important.
  2. Ignore anything in the bin that is not yours.
Justellingthetruth · 15/01/2023 07:48

@gossipgirl63

what an ignorant post in all ways
I can’t believe you posted it

get educated and then you might have a valid opinion or practise not speaking

good grief

just think of all the reasons why someone might do that?
and if you think you caught it dear me.

hope you join the human race soon

Opentooffers · 15/01/2023 13:03

Are you saying you've never been tested? That's not very responsible of you if so. In fact that would be an embarrassing thing to admit to - unless you've had the same sexual partner all your life and were both virgins when you met. Get over yourself, a post like this just shows how naive you are.

Annabananna1 · 15/01/2023 18:52

I've got an HIV test in my bedroom. It came as part of an STI test from Superdrug. There's no box that says HIV test though.

I think most sexually actively people test themselves for STIs from time to time, including HIV. Or they should anyway.

Rainbowshine · 20/01/2023 12:31

Perhaps your neighbour has found out that a partner has been cheating and they need to check for HIV or STIs.

Perhaps they were involved in a situation where they were exposed like a previous post said, healthcare or police can sometimes be assaulted with needles or be exposed in some way.

Perhaps…it’s none of your business and you should stay out of it.

Couldn't help but notice... in other words, she was kind enough to let you use her bin as overflow and you repaid her by going hoking in it and judging her on its contents. What the hell is this world coming to?
