Sex while pregnant

I recently miscarried at five weeks. DP and I normally make love most nights and we carried on when I found I was pregnant. We had sex regularly throughout my last pregnancy as well and everything went OK. But I was talking to a friend who'd had two miscarriages and she said her doctor told her not to have sex during the first trimester this time and she followed that advice and she's now five months and OK. So has anyone else been given this no sex for the first three months adivice? Could there be a connection between DTD and miscarriage?

When pregnant with DD I didn't really feel up to it anyway so we didn't actually have sex a lot whilst I was pregnant! I was not told to stay off it, generally it's absolutely fine unless your midwife tells you to keep off it. I was only a bit more cautious in the first trimester as after I would get slight spotting but I think that's due to changes in hormones and cervix...

If you don't feel safe just keep off it, I'm sure your partner will understand. It's not forever! I remember feeling guilty after a couple of times thinking if I've 'done something' but actually baby is very protected. At most we just didn't do it in positions where it would cause deep penetration.

Sorry for your loss op. I think most first trimester miscarriages are caused by chromosomal abnormalities and there is nothing you can do to prevent it. The advice your friend recieved is unusual but must be based on something specific the dr believes is linked to her m/c.
