Chlamydia

Name change as I don’t want people recognising me…
I caught chlamydia after a very silly night, began bleeding and having pain and burning almost immediately but thought it was thrush so left it for a couple of weeks. I had my suspicions as it hadn’t stopped after treatment so had an Sti test which came back positive for chlamydia. I was treated with antibiotics and asked to come back 8 weeks later for a re test. It came back positive. I hadn’t had sex during that time so the antibiotics hadn’t worked. I was bleeding for weeks on the antibiotics and still had some pain which I guess now was the indication it wasn’t cured.
I have been re treated again and will need to go back for a re test in a month. I’m once again bleeding for the past 3 weeks so I guess the antibiotics didn’t work again.
Can anyone advise what I need to do as I’m scared the re test will show positive again and I will have to start treatment for the third time. What could be causing it to not be cured? I definitely haven’t had sex since the time I caught it, my hygiene is good, no sex toys to spread etc so I’m not sure what the issue is. Can anyone help if they have been in this situation? I can’t find anything online and the nurses were as confused as me.

Hi,

I’ve also name changed, due to the nature of the post. I caught chlamydia when I was younger, not through casual sex but my ex-bf had been unfaithful, it was roughly about 6 weeks until I realised something wasn’t right, waking in the night with awful cramps in my pelvis, I left it for a bit longer but eventually I realised something was wrong, as I also started getting bleeding mid-month. A test confirmed I’d had chlamydia, I finished a course of antibiotics and a test revealed it was gone.

Have you tried a different antibiotic and also how long was the course of antibiotics for?
If things don’t settle, ask for a scan of your pelvic area, just to see if there’s anything else going on, I take it you’re also up to date on smears too?
Good luck and hopefully you find the answers soon.

Are your smear tests up to date? Bleeding could be due to other causes, you may have picked up HPV prior, or at the same time as the Chlamydia - I think I read somewhere that having Chlamydia puts you at increased risk of HPV. It might be a possibility if not had the vaccine.
