Lockdown frustration

Eisenberg · 19/01/2021 19:09

I thought I would start a thread for those of us who are single during lockdown and feeling frustrated to vent and hopefully share some tips for coping.

I am a male in my 30s and this lockdown is proving to be really frustrating.

How's everyone else coping with the lack of opportunities for intimacy?

“Left-handed video chats”

Op, you are not alone!
I'm certain that there are thousands of singles (and couples) who are thoroughly sick of not being able to get out and meet people, but there is light at the end of the tunnel. (Probably a train coming the other way! Confused)

For video chats, some of the on-line dating apps allow you to have phone and video chats. Kik used to, but the video facility has gone Sad. Obviously Whatsapp, if you don't mind giving out your phone number. Also Teams, Zoom, Snapchat are all useful.

You can meet someone outside, as long as you remain socially distanced, and I have done that a few times as a date. It's absolutely not the same, but it does give you the opportunity to see someone in the flesh (as it were!)

Hang on in there everyone!

I know where you're coming from @Eisenberg

Ironically I'd been very happily single for 3.5 years at the start of the first lockdown, with no intention of changing that status. A year later it's like having a permanent itch that I just can't reach...clearly just a case of wanting something purely because you know you can't have it.

I was fortunate to meet someone on a non-dating site last year which turned into a 'cyber fling' I suppose, but since that ended I've struggled to meet anyone else interested in a similar arrangement (we had great chat/banter and mainly text sex but stayed relatively anonymous and definitely no pics/video which seems to be a prerequisite for most men unfortunately).

Lockdown has definitely made me realise that my XH hasn't actually put me off men for life, so I guess I'll have to address that at some point in he future.

In the meantime, erotic fiction and a well-equipped bedside cabinet are helping!

Is it just me who wonders why men use mumsnet?

MintyCedric · 24/01/2021 11:45

I'm sure they are all just hoping to be picked up by horny cougars...Hmm

MisterT373 · 24/01/2021 14:38

If only.......

Actually it's because I find football and lawn mower chat sites too dull.

Mumsnet has helped me to become a better DH.
KennethBakeOff · 25/01/2021 11:40

@knackered - that's a very good question and one I think I'll start a thread about! A good answer from @SirGawain and one I'd agree with from my own experience.

Not technically a 'Thread about a Thread' in that case I don't think.

AverageGuy · 25/01/2021 12:36

I got a lot of help from other mumsnetters, and wanted to be able to help others. Not sure I do, but that's why I'm still here.

Not sure that at nearly 60, I'm going to pick up a cougar...

knackered · 25/01/2021 22:56

I'll pick someone up, it's been nearly a year since I had so much as a peck on the cheek from anyone!!!

MisterT373 · 25/01/2021 23:48

As Sun Tzu wrote "To know your Enemy, you must become your Enemy" - not saying women are the enemy but I hope you get my drift.

With my luck with men perhaps I should get myself over to Dadsnet!

Muuuuuummm · 26/01/2021 18:24

Muuuuuummm · 26/01/2021 18:28
