Is thrush a STD?

Does anyone know if thrush can be transmitted? i.e. from another woman via DH?

Thrush can be passed on but it doesn't count as an STD as it can happen without sexual contact too.

As I understand it, thrush is an overgrowth of the Candida bacterium. It seems as though we all have that bacterium and that in normal circumstances it does not present a problem. Certain factors can however lead to an overgrowth of it, and then the problems start.

My research tells me that it can be passed on through sex, but I cannot find anything to say how likely that may be. Reading between the lines, and I am NOT an expert, would suggest that is a pretty rare occurrence.

It can be passed back and forth, so if you have it you can pass it onto your dh and he can then pass it back to you. It’s not actually a STI but it can be passed on yes. It would be pretty hard to prove your dh passed it onto you and it’s highly unlikely as it’s more likely you got it because of other reasons (bacteria). I get it if the slightest bit of dirt gets in there, so if DP hasn’t washed well enough (hands usually) or can be caused by taking antibiotics or being run down.

As the others have said, thrush can be passed between sexually active partners but interestingly a (non sexually active) person can develop thrush after taking a course of antibiotics. Therefore, it’s not typically classed as a sexually transmitted infection. You can have thrush and not know about it and so it can be passed passed between partners without knowing but for lots of people, it causes intense itching!
