Condom and moisturiser?

Husband had been massaging my back with Aveeno moisturising cream. He didn’t wash hands and then put condom on. Could integrity have been affected by the cream on hands? Asking because day 22 of my cycle I had a strange brownish bleed and only thing I’ve had like it before was implantation bleed with baby 1. Hoping it isn’t because integrity of condom was affected by cream on DH hands and we’ve ended up pregnant.

I work for the Terrence Higgins Trust and often go into schools and colleges to deliver condom advice. We talk about how things like sun cream, lip salves, and anything containing grease/oil can affect condoms. Therefore, it is possible that Aveeno could affect the integrity of a condom.

Sorry that it isn't what you wanted to hear.

Hi, thanks. I knew the oil based moisturiser could. I suppose though when those things are discussed isn’t it more about not using them specifically as lube? Which we didn’t.

I guess I’m hoping that if he had a small residue of cream on his hands when he put the condom on that it wouldn’t be enough to affect the condom. It hadn’t been used as a big dollop for lube. Just residue on his hands. We didn’t notice any breakage or tears. Would we have? Or could the bit of Aveeno on his hands when he put it on have caused a tiny little hole we didn’t notice? I didn’t think about it until now when I had that strange bleed that reminded me of implantation with my first. Would the tare/hike be obvious? Wouldn’t it need to be a lot more cream?

I am afraid that I don't know whether any failure would be so catastrophic that you couldn't help but notice, or something undetectable to the naked eye.

Why not carry out an experiment with another condom and the Aveeno? That might help ease your anxiety.

Assuming it's an wanted pregnancy you are concerned about why not get the morning after pill just as a precaution? Providing you are still with in the time scale to take it I'm sure if you ring your doctor they could leave you a script for it. Might not be possible though if you are unable to get out at the moment with all that is going on.
My apologies if that isn't what you are concerned about but its the 1st thought that came to my mind when I read your post.

Whoops.. I didn't read the full post where you said you were spotting like you had with past pregnancies.
I have no other advice sorry.

Hi Tesbel, yes we DTD day 9 of cycle and day 22 of cycle I had spotting that was just like implantation with baby 1. My first thoughts are x1 on day 9 of cycle and protected I can’t possibly have ended up pregnant especially when it took 5 months of trying for our other child. Then I remembered the Aveeno and wondered if protection had been compromised! Then I’m thinking that surely chances are still quite slim and then what if the bleeding is something else. Thought I’d get opinions on the Aveeno! Day 25 of cycle today. I’ll know by the weekend/early next week.
