Posted this in Mental Health last week but no response so trying again here. Thanks ,x

Been on Fluoxetine a few weeks. Have completely lost my sex drive. I don't have sex with oh anyway but want it back to pleasure myself and release the tension. Nothing whatsoever last night, tried last night and gave up. On 20mg a day, anyone got any tips to bring back libido? If I lowered the amount to 10mg would that help? Help!

I have no experience of libido and AD's.

Is it psychological I.e. Cannot fantasise?
or physiological no feeling in the area's that should?

@noego, thanks for the reply. Physiological, no feelings in that area. Not getting turned on in ways I would before. Just totally numb. :(

Perhaps a chat with the GP. They'll be able to advise whether a lower dose is the correct thing to do.
It sounds horrible, if your mind is getting messages and the body cannot respond.
I understand the frustration.

I'm in the same boat.

I've tried almost all of the SSRIs and whilst they all had slightly different side effects, they all killed my libido stone cold dead.

I have a naturally high sex drive and it vanished within a few days.

This is my second go round on Fluoxetine having been on it previously for many years and it was the same back then - zero sex drive.

Not only am I not interested, I can't orgasm, whether by myself or with a partner. It stinks.

Everyone suggests going back to speak to your GP, but what can they do other than try you on different SSRIs in the hope that one of them doesn't impact your libido?

There are only two ADs that are widely known to not impact libidio - Mirtazapine and Bupropion.

Mirtazapine is great for anxiety, but it didn't help with my depression personally and is an appetite stimulant, so many people gain a lot of weight on it.

Bupropion is not licensed for the treatment of depression in the UK so generally not available.

It seams that in the UK, you have a choice - depressed with libido, of not depressed without.

That is my experience at least.

I've been on SSRI' a couple of times after dc .... total inability to orgasm for the first few weeks both times, but then it came back .
Took a little longer to get there but then a few more weeks and back to normal.
Didn't have the same sex drive tho tbh as I think it dampens down not only your emotional responses but physiological a bit too .

When medication killed my libido I started using vibrators and it works again

Pretty common with anti depressants, it took me months after starting citalopram to be able to ‘finish’ again, it just felt numb. It slowly improved but it’s a lot more work and not as satisfying but better than nothing. Frustrating but necessary for me unfortunately.
