Pill and bleeding

Can anyone offer any advice. I started the pill last week on first day of period Wednesday and I'm still bleeding. Is this breakthrough bleeding? I'm so annoyed because I have a sexy weekend that's been planned for weeks around period. I should have done better research. Is there anything I can do to stop this?

So is this the first packet you started after a break from using the pill? If so, then yes it would be possible to still bleed. Is it the combined pill or progesterone only pill? With the combined pill things settle pretty quickly so next month should be OK.
As an aside, for the combined pill, you don’t need to follow the 7 days pill free rule. For example if you go on holiday, start next packet straight after you finish another packet. In fact, the 7 day pill free rule is another story but that’s another thread.
Progesterone only pill that you take continuously can give you the odd very light bleeding especially if you miss a tablet. And it can take a few weeks for things to settle. Which is annoying.
I am not a doctor, the above is based on personal experience. My periods without any hormonal contraception are not heavy so not sure if this has any bearing on the matter.

If you stop the pill your period will come back after a day or a few days. Again, personal experience not research based information or medical knowledge.
