Unusual condom problem

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 14/09/2018 16:19

I can't use condoms. A GP once told me it's to do with the acidity of my vagina. However careful I am they always shred. No condom has ever survived sex with me. It's not that I'm latex intolerant. It's something else.

I'm currently single but am considering online dating again and would love to have a sex life. I need to sort this out.

I could go into Boots and ask but I'd feel awkward so thought I'd try MN instead.

Does anyone know whether there are condoms that would work for me? Does anyone know what my body is doing to condoms? The second question is just curiosity. The first is the important one.

Wow. How very unusual and more importantly how difficult and frustrating for you!

What about things like diaphragms etc?

itsbetterthanabox · 14/09/2018 21:28

Pasante non latex. They are a completely different material to all over condoms.

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 14/09/2018 23:10

Thanks for the replies. I've got a IUD so only concerned about not catching STIs.

I'll lash out on a box of Pasante non latex and hope to meet someone special.

If they shred I'll have to try again.

I suppose I worry that while I don't know what's causing it I can't be sure which condoms will work, iyswim.

Not helpful but have you ever seen the film Teeth? Perhaps you have that Grin

Ask at the family planning clinic?

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 15/09/2018 08:19

I've never been to the family planning clinic. I don't need to, as I'm post menopausal and it's quite a treck. I rely on public transport and can't walk far. I've had back surgery.

I've tried googling it but I get nowhere. It must be quite rare.

I don't have vagina dentata though my internal muscles are very strong. Don't think it's that, though. Grin

There are condoms designed to withstand the rougher use of anal sex, so give them a try. Femidoms are also worth a go. Do you use any lube? It may be an incompatibility issue, or even a problem with you having skin than is more oily than usual. Latex condoms will fall apart if baby oil is used as a lube, for example.

Have you contacted the condom manufacturers? They might be quite keen to learn of your experience; you cannot be the only woman to have this issue.

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 15/09/2018 08:51

I don't use lube. Never needed to. It's not a rough use issue either, as I've tried using one for a short, very careful session of PIV as an experiment and the condom was still in tatters It's like my vaginal secretions just 'eat' the condom, which is what my old GP suggested. It's to do with my acidity.

Maybe phone the family planning clinic if you can't get there. They are not just there for contraception, they deal with discussing sti as well.

It's surely better to ask the experts than a bunch of internet strangers?

Wherearemymarbles · 15/09/2018 19:44

Chuck a couple of Gaviscon up there first...🙃

Sorry not helpful.....
But ive just looked at a chemical resistance chart.
Resistance to battery acids (sulphuric) and hydrochloric acid is good.

So its inconceivable (to me at any rate) that an acid vagina is the reason.

Unless you have an extra row of extendable teeth......

Wherearemymarbles · 15/09/2018 19:59

Latext also good for latic acid which iirc is what vaginal flora produce...

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 15/09/2018 20:05

I didn't know they did phone consultations. Decades since I used one. Thanks, Van. I'll try that. I hoped someone here would know the answer but it's obviously a pretty unusual problem.

I don't have teeth Marbles but you'd think I did from the shreds I spit out. Grin

My refernce was a bit oblique
It was more along the lines of Alien....!
Which you may have watched as a teenager

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 15/09/2018 21:04

Sorry, missed the reference. I don't watch horror films.

Smile

This may be a bit of an out there idea, but if you have a dildo/vibe could you put a condom on it and see what happens?

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 15/09/2018 21:15

What, you mean to try out the non latex ones? Could be an idea. I think I'm going to go with ringing the FPC. They may even be able to tell me what causes it.

Userplusnumbers · 15/09/2018 23:26

Has it always happened or since you had the IUD, could it not be inserted properly and catching the condoms?

Blushingm · 20/09/2018 20:40

Itsbetterthanabox - I'm giggling at the all over condom

PussGirl · 20/09/2018 21:41

Even if you have no problems with lubricating naturally, the extra slipperiness of sex lube might help, plus it would dilute your natural acidic secretions.

I like Pjur lubes that I buy from Love Honey Smile

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 20/09/2018 21:46

It's always happened, Userplusnumbers, so it's not the coil.

I have no problem lubricating but the idea of using lube to dilute my natural secretions is a good one, PussGirl.

Thanks for replying.
