I've seen a few toys which sort of hook over the penis. Do they work? I'd want him anally and the toy vaginally If that makes any diff. Would some kind of strap on be better?!

How big is his cock? If he's more than average then dp is going to be challenging in any position. Using a butt plug and having his penis in your vagina is going to be easiest.

Things that hook over/wrap around someone's anatomy are pretty useless in my experience unless they are adjustable. Men have a lot of variation in the size and shape of their balls. Women have a lot of variation in the distance between their anus and their vagina. (And between their vagina and clitoris.)

So if you want to get the DP feel I would 100% go for your partner entering you anally, and you using a dildo in your vagina. Go steady! Get your partner in first, then carefully add the dildo. For a first try, use a small dildo, I'd suggest less than 5 inches.
