DP is nervous about asking for anal / building up to it. So I'm often the one to suggest it or initiate it.

Am I alone? I keep reading over and over how women don't enjoy it, how it's a male obsession...but I honestly do.

You are spot on. Between splitting from my wife in 2010, to meeting my current DP in 2014, I hung out with a lot of women & nearly all of them instigated anal. It's far from a deal clincher for me however, they all seemed to enjoy it, so you're not alone OP. Far from it

There is this perception that anal is done by the man to the woman entirely for his pleasure and women only go along with it to make them happy. Whilst there may be women who do that, there are also women who are like that with vaginal and oral sex, but there are plenty of us who genuinely enjoy anal.

When I had a partner who I really liked anal with, I was usually the one to instigate it. Current bf is not very keen so it's off the menu right now with him.

I love it and ask for it, it's probably about 50/50 who initiates. I know women who are the same. "It's just for mens pleasure" is one of those things women who hate the idea of it say.. fair enough to not like it yourself but don't speak for all women.

I do think there are women who like it and initiate it. Im not one of them but i know my husbands ex genuinely liked it (he doesnt really like it and it was an issue between them).

I have not initiated properly with DP because he now told me he doesn't want to. I did subtly try to show some interest in it at the beginning of our relationship, during sex to see how he reacted. He didn't react or mention it. I then brought it up in another conversation at another time. He says no interest.

Part of me is secretly gutted as I know he would be good at it and I like it!

A good challenge to the "typical" view of anal sex as being something men crave and women tolerate, or that it's degrading to women in some way.
