Do you or have you ever operated a sex chat line?

I promise I'm not a fail journo! I've been a MNer for over 8 years, I have probably argued with most of you during that time! I name change regularly as I have for this thread.

Ok, I have a job but it's min.wage and crappy hours. I am looking for new jobs but I have no qualifications beyond GCSE and little experience in anything other than what I already do which will never earn me more than I already do. I have DC and no partner so limited in what I can do outside of the home. I also have debts.

I see quite often on the "how can I earn more money" threads people suggesting the poster operate a sex chat line. I would like to know about that please if anyone is willing to share.

Initial questions I have are;

How do you get into it? Do you join an agency or how do you get customers?

How many hours do you do and what do you earn for those hours?

Are the customers generally pleasant? Do you get verbal abuse?

Do you do text chat as well as phone chat?

How long does each call last on average?

I think I had more questions but I can't think what they are.

I would really appreciate if anyone could give me some insight into this job.

I got into it online. It's an agency local to my area but there are lots of nationwide ones, I also looked at chatrecruit.com

The way the agency I'm with works is you set up an online profile. They never give out your real details - basically you choose an online name, write a bit about yourself in the profile (sexy stuff to draw in customers). Some women put photos on theirs, I don't.

You choose your own hours, log onto the website whenever you want and display yourself as online and available to take calls. Evenings are usually the busiest, it varies, sometimes there will be loads of calls, other times not many. £2.86 per minute, £1 of this goes to the agency and the rest goes to me.

Yes, you get the occasional verbal abuse. I just hang up. You have to be very open minded as you do get some odd requests. I had one customer ask me to give him racial abuse, I refused as I wasn't comfortable with that.

I don't do text chat but there is the option, the agency I'm with also offers online webcam work and cyber chat.

Times vary, usually quite short 15-20 minutes.

I would recommend not using your regular phone - buy a cheap mobile and sim card and don't have an answering machine message.

Confidence is key. You can make a lot of money doing this kind of work but you have to be prepared!

How do I find agencies? What search phrases do I use? And also do you have to pay to be a member of your agency?

I think it's moved on to web cam stuff and online chat rather than phones?

I wouldn't be interested in webcam stuff but it sounds like the phone chat stuff is still in demand?

I've been looking for more ways to make money. This looks perfect. A little too perfect! I'm going to get myself a cheap mobile and see if I can get started.

Keepcalm this isn't a judgement call, but would you tell your DP you were doing it?

I have to say webcam is a lot more profitable for me, but the advantage of phone is that you don't have to be dressed and made up. I find early mornings (before 9am) and the 11-3pm shift to be most profitable on both cam and phone.

I was wondering about webcam. Do you not worry about it being recorded or being outed? How do you keep it separate from the rest of your life?

He knows I adore him and that I'm a whizz at the old 'chat'..... being self employed in my field is exhausting and not financially rewarding!

He is however employed by a government funded security force (if you catch my drift) LOL

If you go on webcam then yes you have to accept the possibility that either someone will come in the room who you know, and/or you can be recorded and the video uploaded anywhere. (Although most video sites are quite responsive to removal requests.)

If you're really worried about being recognised you can choose not to show your face, although this does put a lot of guys off.

It doesn't bother me as the only people whose opinion I care for are already aware that I'm a sex worker.

not what kind of money are you making on the phone chat?

Very little, less than a tenner a day, but I mainly concentrate on cam. I can do £300 a day on webcam. After the site taking their cut that's £200 for me.

1st of all don't be ashamed at all. Tbh I think about it all the time..remember Anne Hathway doing between dinner. Hell I've thought of it because its easy money. Thing is I think it can be done better!

The money is in webcam or Only Fans type stuff. The more you're willing to show and do the more you make. I have a history in glamour modelling for magazines and club promotion so I wasn't really bothered about being recognised as my family and friends knew that's what I did. I don't do it anymore and haven't for a couple of years now. You've got to really put the work in and your heart has to be in to pay off. Feel free to send a PM.
