i didnt know where to put this and its not really sex but its kind of related. I want to improve my pelvic floor. I'm doing pilates and thats good for core muscles etc but I have very little feeling in my 50 year old pelvic floor and find it hard to engage those muscles much at all. I bought an excercise thing which is a plastic thing like a fat tampon but I cant keep it in Blush. I'm not incontinent and can hold my wee etc but once I start I cant stop the flow. I really want to omprove this before I get to the point of no return, it does affect my sex life obviously as things are not as tight as they should be. Can anyone recomend a good product for helping excersise the pelvic floor? I try the am trying the manual tightening and squeezing but its not improving much.

Hi OP, I asked about improving my pelvic floor a while ago on here. Feel as if I am definitely not very tight during sex especially. I bought a love honey jiggle ball but not sure I like it. I had a pelvic toner or some vaginal weight cone things recommended to me and will try them if no joy with the jiggle ball.

The best thing to do is to see a women's health physio and get assessed. Some of the toners and weights/cones etc are not necessarily helpful if the pelvic floor muscles are very weak or have poor endurance. The weights are a progression from the squeeze and hold exercises.

To be effective (and they are proven to be) the exercises should be done 4-6 times a day and it can take a few months to see real change, depending on how severe the symptoms are. Check out the POGP website (physio special interest group for women's health) for more info.

I've bit the bullet and gone for an innovo pelvic stimulator at £250. Theres a thread about them on the product tests page. Ive not had mine very long but i have seen an improvement already.

Sierra that's interesting. I've been doing my (standard) pelvic floor exercises 2 or 3 times a day only. Will up to 4 from tomorrow!

The Squeezy app is great for setting reminders on your phone and has a nice little graphic for squeezing along to. You can set the repetitions and duration of holds to your level.

I'm in my 50's and have a kegal8 pelvic floor exerciser. I used it religiously twice a day for 3 months when I first got it and now probably use it 3-5 times a week. It has made my pelvic floor much stronger and I feel it has been well worth the investment.

Thanks for those tips ladies. I will continue with the squeeze exercises for while and try to do them more often. I will check out the app Sierra as I do forget.

Have rcentlymseen a physio for help with this. She said gadgets are no good and you need to know how to do the exercises correctly.

She recommended me to do 10, 3-4 times a day.

This is what she told me: sit straight on a hard chair, sit on your seat bones.
Visualise closing 3 holes. First tuck you taile bone under you, as if you have a tail and are tucking it in, close your anus as if you're stopping wind, close tour vaginal opening, close your wee hole. DO NOT hold your breath as this makes it harder to do all this, try to keep breathing. Do all yhis 10 times and repeat 3-4 times daily.

I have been doing this for 3 weeks and can feel much improvement.

Thanks Helen. I'll follow those instructions. :)
