Advice on positions to help prevent cystitis?

Not positions. Wee before, wee after and a wash. Not romantic I know but solved the problem for me after years of infections. Lubricant too - even if you think you don't need.

Ok cool. Well I suggested doggy as you're avoiding the direct 'trauma' to the urethra that often leads to the pain/irritation

I take am antibiotic after sex now after repeated utis... Cleaning wasn't enough and. I quite like rough sex!

Taking an antibiotic after sex is only going to encourage bacteria to mutate and become resistant, then if you have an actual UTI it'll be harder to treat with standard antibiotics.

Are you sure? I've just Googled it and it seems fairly standard (initially I was on a prophylactic dose of one a day.) I will go back to the doctor and check....

Also need to check what bloke is using to wash himself with. Scented shower gel etc can cause issues if your friend is prone to infections. Same with handwash.

I have an antibiotic prescribed for use after sex (Nitrofurantoin 50mg). It is a recommended treatment for recurrent UTIs after sex so hopefully no resistance problems?

It's not every time though so I don't think nitro would be justified.

Take it easy. Standard positions, gallons of lube, even if you don't think you need it. Use medicated wash e.g Canesfresh after, drink plenty of water just after and in following day.

D mannose was a life saver for me

Doggy isn't a good position ime but I get your thinking about the urethra. I find that vigorously disturbing the cervix can bring on cystitis so doggy is not good in that respect

Another vote for D Mannose here!! And I also have started to be more religious about peeing after (yes I realise the irony of talking about anything religious whilst referring to my pre-marital sex life haha!!). I also have noticed a difference now I sleep fully naked (although that took some getting used to!)
