I don't think the circumstances make one more valid than another. If you're having sex, and you feel passionate, you are, by definition, having passionate sex.

I think passionate sex is when you're both totally into it, and absorbed in each other in the moment.
DH and I have been together 5 years, have a 14mo Dd and I'm 6 months pregnant with our second, and for no apparent reason had the most passionate, explosive sex we've ever had the other night.
