Is this normal?

namecganged
I left my stbxh of 15 years few months ago. I had never had any other relationships.

however after a few recent encounters with someone I've been seeing I'm wondering if stbxh was normal with regards to his penis.

Ever since I remember it was smelly.
Even if he had washed.
He was very into blowjobs and it made me gag doing it for him because of the smell.
To the point that I told him I wouldn't unless he washed first which he hated.

He was generally a clean person and showered every day.

I'm wondering if this caused my constant bouts of cystitis as I was nearly always on antibiotics and I haven't had any problem since I last had sex with him at the beginning of last year.

I've noticed on recent encounters with new person that there is no bad smell at all, even after not showering for a few hours.

It never occurred to me that stbx was abnormal but now I'm wondering if there was something wrong?

Did he wash under his foreskin when he showered ? If not they can get a build up of smegma

Seeyounearertime · 15/02/2016 21:59

Did STBXH have a foreskin? Was there a white substance with the consistency of cheese? Smegma its called.

Circumcised guys get smegma too.

VinceNoirLovesHowardMoon · 16/02/2016 05:36

Never noticed smegma on circumcised ex.
Some people are naturally smellier than others, that's normal. Insisting you suck his unwashed dick even though the smell makes you gag isn't normal, it's abusive.

I had an ex who was rather smelly. I also got recurrent thrush during that relationship of 5yr or so.
I said to him after a bit
"Can you wash properly, all over it because I keep getting itchy"
But no idea if he did or not, like properly under his foreskin. I wasn't going to wash it for him.

It's presumably a personal hygiene laziness.

People do have different smells and tastes - some stronger than others. But if it's really unpleasant... Obviously personal hygiene is the first thing to consider; then check for infections of the genitals and urinary tract. If they're clear, look at diet: alcohol, cigarettes and many foodstuffs can have a major impact on our scent. Experimenting with dietary changes will take a long time to assess. Ultimately it may be that it's simply a subjective matter: we don't like the smell of that person - something that is likely to be about pheromones (the attraction scent).

I think your ex was unusual yes. My dh is not in the habit of showering/bathing every single day and his willy never smells of anything and just tastes like any other piece of skin.

I think a lot of guys who are uncircumcised don't bother or "forget" to wash inside their foreskin, which leads to a build up of smeg and an unpleasant smell. Difficult to say if that could cause cystitis but I'm sure it wouldn't help.

He wasn't washing properly underneath his foreskin and yes this causes women to get infections.
