Has anyone any tips on incorporating spanking into the sexual repertoire? I enjoy being slightly submissive with dp in the bedroom and we have tried a bit of gentle spanking and both enjoyed it. Was wondering if there was a correct way to do it, or any tips as I'm new to it. I quite like the idea of being submissive with dp but not in a crap 50 shades way.

It depends how much you want to get into it. I would just suggest having some kind of signal or word to indicate ease up a bit and stop.
Having tried a few different implements, my favourite is a Lovehoney riding crop.
You also might want to think about getting tied up - that can be fun!
The BDSM sites will tell you that aftercare is important but that depends how far you take it - I've never found it necessary.

If he's just using his hand to spank you, then you can't really do any damage. If you're using implements, be sensible and buy stuff that's made for the job. Don't ever use a hair brush or similar, if it breaks the skin you can get a nasty infection.

Maybe experiment with some role plays as well, e.g. naughty schoolgirl and teacher?
