Have 12year old sporty (not particularly academic) DD. Trying to decide between Brighton College and Brighton and Hove High School. Anyone got any recent experience of one or other of the schools - would be interested in your opinion. Thanks

I went to BHS which is still in the trust but now an academy. If bhhs is still as the trust school were in the 70s when I was there, I would say academic - although some were more so than others.

For example, Belvedere was easier to get into than BHS and not as academic.

Why not talk to the school? Go to open days etc?

Does anyone know anything about the entrance test for BHHS? DD is bright enough, but sporty more than academic. Is it possible to get past papers? I asked at the open morning but the school said they don't make them available. Is this true or are they just fobbing us townies off

Would be ever grateful for any advice!

Why not have a look at Roedean?

Hi Fernie, new to this so you may have moved on with schooling now but 2 of mine go to Brighton College and are really happy there. Fantastic sport, art and (unusual one this)dance. Very good music, poor drama department. Young teachers. Some unusual extras such as chinese and entreprenure scheme. Has a reputation as an academic hot house but my eldest is not particularly accademic and copes just fine, in fact I am sure doing much better than she would elsewhere. Prep school is really nurturing, but senior school quite tough - not one for the sensitive child.
Looked at BHH, but we didnt want single sex, and though it is accademic, sport is woeful.Nice friendly atmosphere though.
