dd in year 9 has her last day tomorrow.....starts year 10 in june when school returns after half term. does anyone elses school have this system?

new timetable, lockers, new classmates and teachers....all sorted now,so no worries about going in to new year group in september.

Must be an organisational nightmare!

My daughter's school is splitting them into separate subject groups for physics, chemistry and biology after half term rather than teaching "science" all mixed together(all three are compulsory for all to GCSE) but that is all as far as I know.

They won't even have their options confirmed until they start back in September!

One of our local schools has started doing this. Sounds quite sensible actually, means the last few weeks aren't wasted, they have a few bits of homework over the summer and it lets the school concentrate on the new Year 7s in september.

yes,it works really well....means once september comes, they get straight on with their work,in already familiar surroundings. lockers, timetables all sorted s they know where they are going etc

we are still 3 tier system here, maybe thats why. middle and lower schools dont do it. just the upper. yr 9 onwards

Sounds interesting! We have the old system. Although we have new finishing times next year.I'd like to know where you are based.

It only seems to have happened for year 8s and 11s at DC's school.

ILT - what a brilliant system! Avoids that horrible Spetember feeling when everything is new and unfamialr AND the days are getting shorter and chillier. Wish ther could be awhole shake up of the school year now tat most children are not required for Harvest in August.

PuppyMonkey · 29/05/2010 09:21

Really good idea.

yes,my dc enjoy it this way! (they have been to several schools) middle school also do it,hadnt realised, but ds had his last day in yr 7 too. yr 8 when he returns...

only thing is,i've been out buying uniform and stationery now,not got the luxury of 6 weeks in the summer. not everything has been new though.alot can wait!
