Personally I'm finding it very hard on me. I keep taking an emotional hit every time I ask about revision. What has helped has been to get dh on board, but he is a bit work-obsessed himself at the moment.

Anyone else?

Maths today anyone??

snorkie · 11/06/2010 08:54

yep, maths this morning. Shouldn't be a problem, it's his best subject. We're more than half way through now & begining to feel that the end is in sight, but he's a bit down as I'm taking Dd to France today for a wedding tomorrow - he couldn't come because of GCSEs.

sharbieinbackofthequattro · 11/06/2010 08:57

Ahh that's a shame - have a lovely time at the wedding though.
After Maths today we just have History (American West) and Music next week.
Next Friday it will all be over!

ddgm · 11/06/2010 09:53

Hi
Maths in the morning then DT this afternoon, shouldnt be too bad but is just going on about the 2 and a half hour break in between them as they are not allowed off the school premises and are not allowed to make any noise at school - i suggested he revise for dt for a couple of hours-we live in hope !!!

TidyBush · 11/06/2010 09:58

Maths this morning and German this afternoon. Like ddgm's DC my DD has a 2.5 hr break but has to go off the school premises.

Out of normal school hours it's a 2 bus x 1 hr journey home so not worth it. I guess she'll be following in her mother's footsteps and hang around the chippy

sharbieinbackofthequattro · 11/06/2010 13:51

Yeah we had this dilemma the other day - he told me he 'went to the library and revised'- I wonder if there is a chippy near his school.

Remotew · 14/06/2010 11:48

Has anyone done Geography today? DD said most ran out of time to finish it, including herself. Oh well only 4 more to go. She seems to be taking it all in her stride now.

bourboncreme · 14/06/2010 11:56

Ds had geog this morning,he had such a full on week last week that I think he probably didn't do enough this weekend as he was so relieved to get the week over and only really realised this morning,so hope it wasn't a disaster.French this afternoon ....

snorkie · 15/06/2010 08:38

ds did geog & french yesterday too. He said they were 'fine', so that was informative . My flight home was cancelled, so dd & I didn't get home from the wedding (which was excellent) until late last night, so I'm really glad we didn't take him with us or he'd have missed those two. Not long before it's all finished now .

Remotew · 15/06/2010 11:39

Still 4 to go here, one today, last one next Tuesday. Phew!!

ddgm · 15/06/2010 12:04

Geography yesterday, mine said yea it was ok if you knew the answers (hey sooooooo clever) really wasnt in the mood to discuss it any more than that, more geography, dt and RE later this week lets all hope that those are "ok as long as you know the answers" as well !!!!!!!!!!

Would like to think it would all be over then but we go straight into work experience for 2 weeks then working full time 8.30 -5.30 with just under an hours travelling, think i am dreading that more than the gcses, he has already decided he doesn't like it. Roll on the summer hols. I Think

eatyourveg · 15/06/2010 17:45

Geography here too. DS1 missed out a question on how a delta is formed. Not sure how many marks it carried but hope it wasn't a major part

Chemistry tomorrow the big bad one, if he gets more than one word per question down on paper I shall be celebrating.

sharbiebowtiesarecool · 16/06/2010 08:35

he he veg know what you mean
we are off out for a lovely breakfast this morning as we only have 1 more exam to go Music on Friday. The American West History yesterday seemed to go ok.I would like a bit more info tbh.

sharbiebowtiesarecool · 16/06/2010 12:28

ooooooops didn't make breakfast as DS was called/hauled into school by teacher who insisted he attend his last crammer - I thought they were optional.

eatyourveg · 16/06/2010 18:34

Music here on friday too. Think chemistry went badly. Ds1 was due to stay in school for geography revision class for tomorrows second paper and then a music revision class.

I got home from work at lunchtime and he was there and had set the table out for 2 with a glass of wine poured out in my place. he said it just all got progressively worse and he came back to our town and walked up to the house we lived in for the first 5 years of his life. He said he was looking through the windows and felt sad.

he missed Geography but has arranged to go in tomorrow and I took him back to school for his music. Did think it may have been mean of me as he was obviously a bit down.

Seems ok now and we are going to watch a dvd tonight and forget exams

Remotew · 16/06/2010 18:43

eatyourveg, can you ask your DS what the Geography paper 2 is on? DD sitting it tomorrow and doesn't know .

eatyourveg · 16/06/2010 20:25

abouteve Its human geography, tourism/national parks, population/ overcrowding in LEDC, industry in LEDCs and MEDCs eg Ruhr and M4 corridor plus SE Asia, sheffield steel etc settlement, agriculture, managing resources and development in LEDCs

Do you know the exam board? try looking at a past paper to get an idea of which topics come up the most frequently.

Good luck to your DD

Remotew · 16/06/2010 20:39

Thanks, reckon I need to hand over the laptop pdq.

snorkie · 16/06/2010 22:39

Geography topics will vary according to exam board & syllabus. Ds says mainly case studies for him (edexcel syllabus A).

radams · 16/06/2010 23:17

Have ds in year 10 in top set at grammar school but suddenly getting poor results and blames it on every thing but lack of revision. Has coasted so far on minimal revision how do I motivate him to put more effort in?

sharbiebowtiesarecool · 16/06/2010 23:45

radams dunno but when you find out can you let me know

Remotew · 17/06/2010 09:12

They will get motivated once they sit mocks or early modules and don't get predicted grades, hopefully.

We studied a couple of past papers for the Geography last night, together with the marking guidelines. DD said it's a paper you cannot revise for but I disagreed and we got some good pointers.

sharbiebowtiesarecool · 18/06/2010 00:02

right last exam today - music listening.hip hip hooray!!!!!

PosyPetrovaPauline · 18/06/2010 00:21

ramdams i am with you

dd is in a grammar school and very lazy - cannot be bothered to work at all

has a few gcse's this year followed closely by a few modules for another 4 or so

then in november maths gcse - wish they had left her until year 11 to 'mature' and realise that these things matter

eatyourveg · 18/06/2010 07:56

music here too, clashing with physics so they are being run one after the other. Then we can all relax - until results day at least.

abouteve - how was the geography? ds1 not talking at the moment, I assume it wasn't good
