Can ISAs be resat ?

DS is doing chemistry ISA this week (AQA). He says that it is something you can't revise for , can't be resat and counts for a good slice?
Can anyone explain what an ISA is and whether he is right?

Hello, I am a science teacher KS4 so I can tell you. The ISA is the coursework element of the GCSE and will count towards the final grade. They will do a practical and an exam based on their work. They should do one for physics and biology too. They can sometimes resit time allowing but it is unlikely at this late stage. Tell DS to revise all the variables from the How Science Works part of the book, usually at the front of the orange yr 10 book.

I hope I helped. He must not worry, it is work he will have previously covered.

he is still in Y10 and taking the exam in Y11 ,So (worst case scenario) I would imagine there would be time to resit if necessary.

Yes there will be time to improve if necessary. Make sure he can draw a results table (putting in units for measurements) and maybe a graph.
Is he doing core science? double or triple? He will have to do one ISA for each and if triple one in each subject.

Yes you can resit them - it is built into the structure of the course.

You can't sit the same one again, so it depends on having another one available. I don't do AQA, but I assume it is similar to Edexcel - you can do several ISAs, but only submit the marks from the best ones.

In an ISA, they do a practical in class and then sit a paper based on this. A few marks will be about their actual practical, and the remaining ones will be about a fictitious one.
