Advice on secondary schools in Brighton

Relocating to Brighton from Norway and trying to get my head round schools application process. Need place for 12 year old daughter starting yr 8 in sept. seems good schools oversubscribed so only places in schools with ofsted report grade of 3 - is this too low? any advice on independent schools in Brighton. My daughter is sporty but not very academic so not sure how she'd cope with entrance exam and academic pressure. If anyone has experience of state/independent schools in the area (especially BN1) would be interested to hear from them.

Hi, just bumping this for you as it doesn't seem to have been noticed.

Thanks Pixel - how do you do that? Posted it under local too and did get a couple of replies. So far Brighton and Hove High School seems best indie option so would be interested to hear from anyone with direct experience. Amazed how complex the system is in the UK - here in Norway you just go to your nearest school and most are of similar standard. But then Norway is a small poplulation with little social deprivation.

Well to be honest the system in Brighton is a bit of a shambles. They were trying to stop the better off people monopolising the best state schools by buying houses in the catchment areas so they invented this 'lottery' system. It was supposed to be fairer but has ended up with this ridiculous situation where we have children travelling miles to school when there is one practically on their doorstep (very 'green' I don't think) and children having to go to different schools to their siblings. I'm afraid I don't know anything about the independent schools at all so I can't help you there. I hope you get some useful information from someone else .
