Help!! we are going on holiday monday for the rest of the easter holidays and my son needs to get his homework done but is stuck and i have no idea how to work this out! Please can anyone help me calculate this?

Write the number 1/125 (fraction) as a power of 5. What is the value of the index?

is 1/ 5 to the power of 3

DH reckons this is index -3

1/125 = 1/(53) = 5(-3).

The value of the index is -3.

ie 5x5 = 25 is 5 squared (to power of 2)

5x5x5 is 125 - 5 cubed (to power of 3)

so index is -3, to indicate is a fraction

Oh, someone beat me to it. What a shame!
