Hi, my DD has done nearly all of her h/w but was stumped by one question to do with the Youth Justice system, "why is it so important that children know about the Youth Justice System?" she can't find anything on the net and can't come up with any answers apart from "so that they know the consequences of any action" - is there something we're missing? Thanks.

How about to know that it can assist with prevention. Therefore that children have somewhere to go to before turning to crime.

I'd give them some spill about crime affecting all sectors and ages of society. Teenagers are more likely to be mugged for ipods then at any other age so it's improtant for them to see that any offender is not going to be treated lightly and that the consequences of this are.... Maybe also mention that carrying knives is also more common in teenagers, go into the reasons behind this and the consequences of being found in possession of a knife.

She could mention the peak age for offending which (according to which bit of research you look at) is somewhere in the teens.

I guess she's looked at the Youth Justice Board website?

These are fantastic suggestions, thank you very much. Yes, has looked at YJB website, it was helpful for the rest of the stuff!! Thanks again.
