Grammar School Appeal.

My daughter passed two of the three papers sat in her 11+, missing out on the pass mark in the maths paper by a few points. She is in the top set however for Maths at her primary school. Do I have a chance at appeal? My arguement is that she is academically strong in Literacy and many other subjects which is proven by her results in school. Help! The appeal form must be in by 26th.

What are your grounds for appeal? The 11 plus site is deeply misleading as to the chances of success at appeal. It seems to encourage parents to spend money on educational assessments and raise their hopes. If DC failed to pass one of the papers it is not clear fron OP why the child should be favoured over another who has passed said paper. Of course it seems unfair - but that is the system: one shot at age 11 or thereabouts;that's the whole point of GS and the basis of their critique.

In our authority, they add up all the marks and it's the overall mark which counts, you don't have to pass all 3 papers, so must be different where you are. Here, most people whose DCs have failed by just a couple of points, and who can demonstrate competency through SATS results/teachers reports/school work, or mitigating circumstances (although they should have been logged on the day of the exam) have tended to get in.
