Clearing - please explain!

Hello,
quick question on behalf of my friend who is a couple of years younger than me. He finished A levels last year, and did UCAS over Xmas... just got all replies back and they're all rejections
He got ABC though! I think it was the Personal Statement that let him down.

Anyway, is he eligible for clearing - and how does it work anyway? Or is it something you only do if you get an offer, but then don't make the grades?
Somebody please explain what he can do now!

The best place to look is the UCAS website as that has a guide to clearing. The website says "if you have taken part in UCAS and have received no offers you are eligible for clearing" so that covers your friend. The whole clearing system doesn't kick in till around A Level results time because universities don't know what spaces they have till then. There is a list of spaces on courses on the UCAS website and you usually need to phone the individual universities to get them to consider you. One of DD1's friends went through clearing and he had to wait for a couple of days for the university he wanted to decide that they would give him a place and it was all a bit stressful.

I'm not sure if there is anything he can do till then.

He should look at the UCAS website. He might find this.
I don't know much detail about it eg how many new lives you get (it says an additional choice) and whether he can submit a new, improved PS.

thanks - I sent him the link to the 'extra' thing hopefully he'll follow that up. he's not got any support though as he's already left college.
