Waiting for that secondary school letter (1st march?)

Is anyone else waiting for that letter with bainted breath? I'm terrified DS won't get into his first choice and don't know what we'll do if he doesn't.

We are awaiting the decision on out DS's application to High school. It's been the most traumatic 4 months of my life...!! The school we have applied for is a faith school with excellent results, we have visted it twice and feels 'right'. The worrying factor is over there has been 2,000 applications for just 218 places.

There are two excellent faith schools within our area with which our DS has a fair chance(He achieved full points for both)

The third choice is a sports college which my son prefered (the majority of his friends will be attending), is just not in the same league as the faith schools.

Fingers crossed Monday that will be get the decision we want...

We've applied for 4 very oversubscribed schools for dd for a secondary place.

Last year 6 children in year six didn't get a single offer of a place.

If she doesn't get a place I'll bung her on a waiting list and home school her. Poor kid, she's terrified of the thought of being at home with me nagging her all day, instead of at school giggling with her mates.

The sad thing is that three of the schools on our list are just standard comps with very average results GCSE ....... Yet still horribly over subscribed because all the other schools around here are hugely unpopular sink schools....

hi, just wondering if any of you live in Northampton and which schools you have applied to or dread getting? (secondary or primary)

Titty, we are in London too, and all the schools we have applied for are very oversubscribed too, and the rest are sink schools.....

Have you tried to see if you can sneak a peek on the admissions online thing?
I have decided I am pleased she hasn't got our 2nd choice - grammar school 19miles away because maybe that woul dhave gone against her when appealing for the one just 9 miles away - at least this way if an appeal fails, she'll go to school with most of her pals.
The local academy is pretty amazing, performing arts, and she is on the g&t for dance already so she would do well there. It's just she's that quiet studious type.
Ho hum!

Still waiting here...

I have however received the letter telling us dd has a place at the local Junior School. But that was no great surprise as it is our nearest school and the Infant School she is currently at is a feeder for the Juniors.
But still - phew, no need to worry about her place. One down, one to go...

hi there
i have just seen where my DS1 is going and he has got his first choice. Friend told me to log on and then go to printer friendly version and the details were there! I am in Kent.

Where I am you could recieve the results by email, if your child hadn't taken the 11+. As DS took the 11+ I have to wait for the post the next day (or the day after if postie is slow ahhhh!). It's like being pg and waiting for the birth.

Been trying to keep myself busy today to take my mind off the stressful wait.
I was even dreaming about it last night! I dreamt that I opened the email and the school we had been allocated was listed as a code and i didn't know which school the code represented so went into full panic

Thankfully DS1 is at a party today so won't be thinking about it at all..

Kent people - it has been confirmed that the details shown on the 'printer friendly' version are the real deal - see here. For everyone in Kent who has got what they wanted, congratulations!

I think indeed Lancs is enlightened - they let you know whether the child has 'met the required standard' on the 11+ in october, and at that point whether a place has been allocated or if not what position on the reserve list.

We got the letters in the post yesterday morning from LEA and the school.

So thank you to those who passed on congratulations, we did indeed have a nice weekend with a celebratory pizza

(awaits exodus of families with primary aged kids from London to the NW...)

RoseWater - is that likely for you? Fingers crossed!! I have a couple of years to go yet but its nice to have some sort of idea about these matters!!

If you don't get the boys what will you hope for?

Am literally stressed to my eyeballs about secondary admissions. My first choice was inspected after the closing date for admissions and only got a resounding satisfactory . Second choice we are on the border for catchment, third choice not in catchment (sighs). The joys of living in London. The schools within the catchment area are absolutely dire. I would rather pay than send my DS there. I reckon that eventually will have to pay as I cant see him being accepted at any of the schools I chose. 2nd March roll on and congratulations to those who have managed to get their first choices

Oh my life! I've just checked out the CC website, and it says ;

19 February
2010
List of allocations posted to junior, primary and secondary schools Primary/junior schools
check for changes
NB Confidential

So the school DS is at now knows and I don't! It's a good job I only discovered this now, and only have to wait another day or two, or I might have kidnapped the school secretary, and demanded they tell me!

Do you think it would be out of order to say to the head in the morning "Mrs X, the secondary school results are being posted today. Do you think DS might be going to a Catholic school?" with a knowing look?

I am so glad Im not alone in thinking that it sucks that the schools know before we do..
is there any reasonable reason for this ??

So do we find out tomorrow or Tuesday?
I applied for DD online, we are in Hackney. I am hoping she got her first choice as we don't stand any chance of getting any of the others! (all academies)

On line you find out at 5.30pm here. The office closes at 5...it seems they post the letters, and send emails all at the same time.

Do you think they take on extra staff to man the phone lines the next day?

I thought I could log on to the site I did the admission on to get the outcome. Its come round so fast and I keep saying I don't care what the outcome is as long as she gets one of our choices.

I just checked out choices and I didn't realise I had done a certain one second. I was convinced I had done that 5th! Opps, oh well, too late to change it now.

You can log in from 7am in the morning on Tuesday in Hackney. Same site you applied on.
I have DS1 and an entire class of year 6s to worry about!

Both myself & DH can not remember if we requested the admission letter by email or paper....grrrr!
So we still may have to wait until Tuesday/Wednesday for the response...oh joy!
Good luck to everyone!
