Is anyone else waiting for that letter with bainted breath? I'm terrified DS won't get into his first choice and don't know what we'll do if he doesn't.

Our DS got first choice (a non catchment school). Chuffed to bits. Phew. The wait is over. Didn't get an e-mail but worked out how to view it online (Essex). Muppets. Also it came through the post today. It's like being unable to get a lemon on Shrove Tuesday or a pumpkin at Halloween. Same old excuse....oh there's been high demand....duh....really???

Mummykins619 · 02/03/2010 11:08

We have received our Secondary School place !!!! Have been allocated a school which is 3.4 miles away !!!! The school I requested is 1.11 miles away ! I have spoken to the Admissions team whom tell me that the school I requested is over subscribed, so I now have to send my child on a 1 1/2 hour walk each way to a school I didn't want. I will be putting in a appeal.

Fingers crossed

Hope you all get the schools you requested

teameric · 02/03/2010 11:17

I'm still waiting!!!

titchy · 02/03/2010 11:19

Me too

Any Surrey MNers had an email yet?

gorionine · 02/03/2010 11:25

Mummykins sometimes things really do not make much sense. A letter came with the admission thing to let us lnow what waiting place DD would be for the other schools in the bourough WRT distance if we choose to appeal the decision and she is on a longer wait for the HS half a mile away than for the one 4 miles away.

I am for those who have got their first choice.

Good luck to the ones still waiting!

FrogPrincess · 02/03/2010 11:35

Well, I haven't posted on MN for several months now, but the anxious wait for Year 7 places brought me back! It's good to know I wasn't the only one going crazy waiting and waiting. Very happy for all those who got the school they wanted, and best of luck to anyone who's going to appeal, or is trying to make sense of a puzzling decision.

Here in Bristol the letter from the council still hasn't arrived, there is no option to be notified by email or website to check. We live in the dark ages.

Luckily for us dd got a letter from the school we wanted, with a music specialist place offer which we'll gladly accept! We're so happy and relieved.

Mummykins619 · 02/03/2010 11:36

Its so frustrating - All his friends will be going to this school too, a lot of them have siblings so you are guaranteed a place !

All the kids down our road go to the school I requested, I have been told "Its a big year, your son is in" !!!!! A lot of kids will be travelling from out of the area but again they have siblings already there, mmmm not fair really.

I am so upset, feel let down to be honest !

We are in Trafford - let me know if anyone else is in the same boat.

teameric · 02/03/2010 11:38

Just got my letter!!! My DS got his first choice wooooooo, so pleased!!!

deaddei · 02/03/2010 11:39

Well post arrived early - ds got the school he wanted. No grammar place- but no surprise there.
All over thank goodness- I hope you all get what you want.

gorionine · 02/03/2010 11:46

Mummykins, DD first choice was in Trafford LEA but as we are out of catchment (and bourough) we sort of new she would not get in so the deception is not as big for us.

titchy · 02/03/2010 11:49

We just got email - got our 2nd choice which we're delighted about (knew we wouldn't get 1st choice as out of catchment, but wanted to be on wait list just in case))!

Well I am never going through that again.

11+ hell.

DS was only a few points away from being offered a place at the grammer school...but 20 boys in between him and a place, so won't be bothering to wait.

We weren't offered 2nd chilce because we needed to live less than 1.2 miles from the school, and aparently we live 2.9 miles away. (Not sure which way they were measuring!) But that's OK, becuase if we'd really wanted him to go there we should have bought in the catchment when we moved a few years ago.

He has been offered a place at the Catholic school 13 miles away...manageing to avoid the local school which is duller than dull, so actually I'm quite relieved.

It was the not knowing that nearly killed me.

I actually think he'll be a lot happier at the incredibly laid back shool he's be going tto, rather than the very pushy boys school.

Can you tell I need to talk about this?

Never again though....I think I shall be boycotting the 11+ with my other DC...DS2 wouldn't pass, and DD probably would but there is not way DH and I want her to go to the girls school, although little miss determined might have her own ideas!

Skegness · 02/03/2010 12:14

Shit. One twin allocated our 1st choice, other twin our 4th choice.

Madsometimes · 02/03/2010 12:16

No Skegness, that is too dreadful.

Skegness · 02/03/2010 12:18

Someone joked to me that this could happen and I assured them that they always allocate twins the same school! Feel really gutted, tbh.

hippipotamiHasLost80lbs · 02/03/2010 12:19

Skegness, that must be a mistake surely?? How on earth can they do that??

gorionine · 02/03/2010 12:20

Skegness!

LynetteScavo · 02/03/2010 12:20

Grammer? No wonder he wasn't offered a place!!

compo · 02/03/2010 12:21

that's the sort of thing that the local news would be interested in

caramelwaffle · 02/03/2010 12:21

OH's daughter got in to fourth choice school. A good school. We discovered this when the E-Admissions came back online.

Daughter yet to hear the news.

RustyBear · 02/03/2010 12:24

What not to say at the school gates
