Waiting for that secondary school letter (1st march?)

Is anyone else waiting for that letter with bainted breath? I'm terrified DS won't get into his first choice and don't know what we'll do if he doesn't.

I don't think we are getting emails. I am in Bexley.

hippipotamiHasLost80lbs · 02/03/2010 07:51

Well, no email and no text message telling me I could log on to see the results.
Decided to try logging on anyhow and the website has crashed due to heavy traffic (no shit sherlock)

But, good old postie delivered a letter not 4 minutes ago which ds ripped open eagerly. He has got into his first choice (which we pretty much expected) and is happy.

Phew! Am relieved

Enchilada81 · 02/03/2010 07:52

I've just emailed the admissions team. Let's see if they can manage a reply to that.

What's more annoying is I work for another borough alongside the choice advisor and I know the phones will be going mad. I will be just as frustrated as they are.

hippipotamiHasLost80lbs · 02/03/2010 08:10

BigTilly - I would normally be in excactly the same place you are. Our postie has always, in the 12 years I have lived here, delivered after 10am ish. But for some reason, today, he turns up at just gone 7.30am. I could kiss him
Have just checked - website still crashed, no emails and no text message. Online system seems surplus to requirement to me - I prefer the paper system! [old fogie emoticon]
Hang on in there, I hope you get your news soon.

valleyqueen · 02/03/2010 08:19

I have been outside looking for the postie, as have 2 of my neighbours the poor woman will run when she sees us lot.

BigTillyMint · 02/03/2010 08:30

Got the email, and DD got 2nd choice! (well joint first, really, but we couldn't put it like that!)

DD so relieved, she cried

Good luck VQ!

deaddei · 02/03/2010 08:32

You are all remarkably calm compared to the parents on the 11 plus forum
I'll be waiting for my nice postie up till 12, then have to go out. As the post normally arrives about 2, we'll find out about 5pm.
But we think we know.

valleyqueen · 02/03/2010 09:06

We got first choice. Good luck to those still waiting.

HSMM · 02/03/2010 09:08

We didn't get any of the 3 we put on our list. As a special reward we were allocated the worst school possible, which is at least a half hour drive from one side of the town to the other! (We're not going there - I will home educate until our appeal is successful)

Skegness · 02/03/2010 09:10

Oh HSMM- so sorry. What a nightmare.

Waiting for the postie here and dreading a similar scenario...

Fab news that so many people here are getting 1st or 2nd choices though.

Foxbat42 · 02/03/2010 09:40

Got DS in to non-catchment school last year on appeal due to bullying in primary school. Twin DD's have been turned down for places so now facing the appeals process again....x2. And whereas the bullying issue was a strong case, its my understanding that a split family is a "social issue" and our LEA don't grant appeals for social reasons apparently.

Enchilada81 · 02/03/2010 09:42

Just got mine through the post. DS got first choice.

I did phone the council this morning and apparantly their notification system went down

It says something about the council when snail mail arrives before the email does!

Good luck to all those still waiting.

Hope you get what you want and soon

hoping we're not waiting next year as after a palce at AS unit so would know before december. If not- arrghh.

deaddei · 02/03/2010 10:06

MsDav- you are the same borough as me I think?
Am off to Waitrose and to have a coffee.

valleyqueen · 02/03/2010 10:08

For those in London there is. Big discussion on LBC about this and they are trying to get hold of eadmissions for an explaination.

MsDav · 02/03/2010 10:10

I am indeed Deaddei, I think our posties like a good lie in here.

gorionine · 02/03/2010 10:11

Just got the letter, DD going to our second choice but she will be happy as most her friends are going there too. We are apparently on a waiting list for our first choice.

MsDav, you made me LOL!

deaddei · 02/03/2010 10:12

I have visions of prospective Tiffin mums in lace negligees and feathery mules, draped by the Post Office depot.........

RealDeal · 02/03/2010 10:18

Got our email from Eadmissions at 9am. DD got into 3rd choice (Ashmole) which was actually DW's 3rd preference and my 1st!

MsDav · 02/03/2010 10:18

Lol Deaddei! I think it would be a nice Boden cotton nightie and Birkenstocks wouldn't it?
I am taking my mind off it by getting ready as am going out for lunch. Might have overdone the eyeshadow in my desperate attempt to not think about it and currently look like Angie Watts circa 1985
