Parent Promoted schools

Hi

There's a group of parents wanting to start a parent promoted secondary school in my area. If all goes to plan it will be fab and open in time for my dcs. i know some of the steering committee as their dcs go to my ds' primary school.

it will probably be set up as an Academy and will be entirely non-selective.

I am keen on the idea and have registered my interest but want to find out more about parent promoted schools. apparently now the steering group are trying to get funding from the DCSF.

DO you think they'll get the funding? Would you send your child to a parent-promoted school? Have you any experience at all of parent promoted schools?

Our other local state schools are either good faith schools (we're not eligible) or average / bog-standard massive scary comps - most of the middle class parents send their kids private, move out of the area or get into a faith school

Thanks!

I think you are talking about the West London Free School. Their language about the local comprehensive school is much more tolerant and their case for the new school is based on the need for more secondary places and a more academic curriculum not on knocking the local non-faith alternative.

The PPS though will have to follow the national admissions code so there is no guarantee that you will get in - neither for those involved in the admirable job of creating more choice in that part of West London.
