so if requirements are 300 points from 3 Alevels ,that means a minimum of 3 B's I guess

300 points = BBB or ABC or anything better - often a particular grade in a relevant A Level may be specified.

ok - this'll show how dumb I am but...
does the AS amount to 50% of the whole A2 ?

So if you got a C at AS level how well would you have to do when taking your A2 to bring your A2 exam up to B ??
Assume that if you got a C at AS ,you'd have to get A's in your A2 exam to get a B .

Violet - at A2 the total marks for all AS modules and A2 modules for the subject will be added up and a grade given from that total (480+ for an A; 420+ for a B; 360+ for a C.
Don't forget too that most students have the opportunity to retake modules so often AS modules are retaken in January of the A2 year to get more marks.

Oh I feel so dense ,please forgive me.
Realise that I've somehow been confusing the UCAS tarif ( though I do vaguely get the concept of UMS ) with results at AS and A2.
But Lillymaid now I've looked again at son's marks at AS ,I can see that they are out of 300.
so wouldn't figures you give for A2 ,eg 480 for an A ,be 600 for an A ???

Violet = 600 is the total number of marks available. Anything from 480 (combined A" and AS marks) is an A, and I think that any total mark from 540 will be an A*.

The A will work slightly differently - all the A2 modules need to be over 90% rather than just getting that as an average (just in case it wasn't confusing enough!) so you could get a total mark of above 540 and it not be an A.
