can anyone give me some pointers for a yr 7 pupil could put down for "a good piece of writing"?

give reasons for opinions
give examples from a book ( or quotes)
use similies and metaphors

dont keep using the same word!

Never use "nice" to describe something. Look carefully at your adjectives and adverbs to see if they are working hard for you.

Depends on the kind of writing but:

Use a variety of openers and connectives to interest the reader;

Use a range of vocabulary including some less common, adventurous words;

Use a variety of short, snappy sentences and longer, more complex ones;

Use paragraphs and punctuation to structure the work and make it easier for the reader to access/enjoy.
