How much work is school doing post AS levels

There seems to be a huge difference in what schools are doing for the rest of the term after AS levels. DS1 is constantly getting phone calls to go out with friends who are doing nothing. He is ploughing his way through extended essays for 3 subjects and practise maths coursework.

What are your DCs schools doing?

Dd1's have started A2 in all subjects. This gives them a taste of what they may want to drop next year. Extended project has begun in earnest for those doing it! Higher Ed conferences, Uni open days etc.

DS1 has gone to do his DofE Gold expedition for a few days. And he's looking into where to go to university. I don't expect him to do any more work until September now.

Our L6 are all starting their A2 courses - I teach English and we have got stuck into the coursework texts they will be continuing to study in September.

Thank you for your replies. I think they do show that schools differ in their approach. DS1's school certainly did not give them a rest. He barely had any study leave.
However, they have discussed drafting of personal statements and had talks on various universities/subjects etc. I wonder if they are set work over the holidays?

We've started A2 work.

the Y12s I teach get a transition to A2 project to do, (in my subject this involves reading plays, historical research, current affairs essays and grammar practice) they do get study leave for this, as the whole school TT is collapsed at this time of year to allow for innovative cross curricular activities to take place.

They should be working flat-out, tbh.

Hopefully the school is also organising activities to acquaint the students with the UCAS process, as they should be visiting prospective universities over the holidays.

My Y12 group are doing A2 work now.

At my DS's school they work flat out on A2 work.

Swedes - think what your DS1 is up to is just right

dd is doing university open days and minimal school work-she says maths is the only one of her A2 courses where she is actually learning stuff ,but she has managed to drop one of her courses early.

I teach yr12/13 and, after two weeks study leave, it is straight back to normal. We just start the yr 13 work and homeworks frequency is just the same.

Exactly the same as zeke here - hardly any time for us to prepare the new A2 course. But the subject content is so heavy that we have to plough on.

Dd is back at school after her AS and has been doing a lot of work in all her subjects and will be all this week apart from a trip to a HE fair but next week is HE/Career week followed the week after by Extended Project/Work Experience week and the last week of time is Experience week for the whole school. She will be helping with the Maths Experience for pupils in Yr7 - 9 as she is wanting to go into teaching - probably at primary level but wants to see what secondary pupils are like!

My music students had the first week a little bit more relaxed to be honest - worked well as I had an studetn teacher in who did a week long composition project. Hmmm... now I think about it, t wasn;t very relaxed!!!! Just a nice change!

They have started looking at pieces they are studying next year and will have assignments on them over summer.

I personally feel this is a good time of year to do enrichment type things that have been oushed out of 6th form experience since all Jan/feb and May/june are now exams. Lots of trips, concerts and cros - cirricular work. Still relevant and I think benificial but hard to fit in during rest of year.
