I've been covering a Yr11 Tutor Group since Christmas and I've got a bit attached to them. This morning they were taking pictures of each other and they wanted me in them! Only a little thing really, but as one of the lads called me over and put his arm round me, I got all teary!

They've been a lovely bunch and I'm gonna miss some of them. So nice of them, to see me as their proper tutor, when really, I run in, take the register and run out again!

I've wangled myself a final cover with some of them in Maths tomorrow, as I know they are going to be dismissed into assembly early and I can go with them.

Aww bless

Do you know.. I like you Maureen

MaureenMLove · 21/05/2009 18:39

Aw fanks! I like you too!

I think I got emotional because they are all so excited and boucey about life and the future! It's a wonderful thing to know you've got you're whole life in front of you.

I haven't made them any cakes, or bought them anything. DH thinks I shouldn't bother, but I might still make some cakes. I could make one big one actually and write good bye & good luck on it.

See, I'm a bit of a softee too and I would make them a cake.

Are they having a prom and having ridiculous transport?

MaureenMLove · 21/05/2009 18:46

Yep! They've invited me to that too! I wasn't going to go, as I am only a cover teacher, but after today, I might change my mind!

Er, I have no party frocks! Only a wedding dress, for when I get really drunk!

I will find one now though.

I've made a cake! Bless them.

Trouble is, they don't know they are leaving tomorrow! It's long and involved, but basically, school just out of special measures and the new head thought it would be a good idea to keep them in school until the end. Suddenly decided today, that it wasn't working, so she is dismissing them for good, tomorrow.

They've been asking me for weeks, when they were aloud to leave! I think I might be giving them a bit of a hint in the morning!

I've lurked on your threads over the years from the N,C&AP board through to your new job and I think you are a credit to yourself and that school.

Yep, they certainly will know when they see the cake that the end is nigh !!

Hope you have a lovely day with them tomorrow (better take some tissues just in case....)

MaureenMLove · 21/05/2009 22:20

No, I promise I won't take my dress to school! It think there will be tears though. If not in tutor, the assembly in the afternoon.

well I hope you get a well deserved rest... you might need it if you're out partying with yr 11's tomorrow night

MaureenMLove · 21/05/2009 22:21

That's not until the GCSE's have finished. They got another 3 or 4 weeks swotting to do, before we sanction any fun!

ah... gives you plenty of time to polish your party piece and practice your dance moves then

MaureenMLove · 22/05/2009 15:33

What a lovely day!

All Yr11's safely dispatched on they're way in the big wide world. Well, almost anyway. Still a few exams to go, but they were all a bit teary and actually some of the girls sobbed. So lovely to see.

Get yourself a glass of wine Maureen - medicinal purposes!

ChampagneDahling · 22/05/2009 16:04

Well done Maureen - you sound like good people to me - never mind the glass - have the bottle

brimfull · 22/05/2009 16:07

I heart teachers

foxytocin · 24/05/2009 11:19

it is the little things that can be touching. one of my yr 11s asked me if i would take them in the sixth form too and when i said 'no' he looked genuinely disappointed.

elliepac · 24/05/2009 11:27

Am loving the fact that I am not the only one who gets all emotional when Year 11 leave. My form left on Friday. Have been with them since they were Year 7 and watched them all grow up, it's a little bit like watching your children leave home (i imagine). I will really miss them!

MaureenMLove · 24/05/2009 21:29

I keep looking on the Facebook page that they set up for 2009 leavers, at all the great pictures they took.
