Hi
Could any RE teachers/parents give any advice or recommend a good web site for my DD to go on... she has to say the origin of "love thy neighbour" and then go on to briefly describe what it means and give a few examples. It's just knowing where to start really! Any advice VERY much appreciated. Thank you.

Is this not one of The Ten Commandments?

scienceteacher · 04/05/2009 15:28

The parable of the Good Samaritan will be key.

Jesus told his disciples to love their neighbour, and they asked for a definition of neighbour - so Jesus told the parable.

Try putting a shout out for Twinset, I think she is a R.E teacher?

JackBauerKillsPigs · 04/05/2009 15:35

Sunday school pays off, it's leviticus 19.something

Thou shalt not avenge, nor bear a grudge against the children of thy people, but thou shall love thy neighbour as thyself.

SO in 31 years I have foudn 1 use for sunday school, being able to vaguely help a complete stranger online. result

Hi, littlelambmakesfour, just looked at that site - it is brilliant, thank you so much, DD should find all the information she needs, so concise and not at all fussy - should be more sites like this!! Thank you so much. Won't need to bother Twinset now!! Bye.

I seem to remember (from a visit to the Millennium Dome, so it was a while ago!) that every major religion has an equivalent about loving the next person as yourself, could be an interesting angle to take?

twinsetandpearls · 06/05/2009 22:49

Yes they do, everyone of the major six world faiths has a golden rule that is very similar to this one.

discoball · 07/05/2009 07:09

Thanks, Lio and twinset - this has all been very helpful.
