SATs results - passing on info to secondary school

My dd tells me that her Prep school will be sending every pupil's yr 6 SATs results on to their new secondary school.

Is this common practice?

Yes,although some schools are only interested in the levels, but ds's school wanted the raw scores.

GreenBib · 12/03/2009 18:36

yes and all sec schools treat them with caution.
Most sec school retest with CAT scores anwyay.

standard - we get shedloads on info on our students - attendance, end of year reports, behaviour reports - everything is bared!

Thanks for your responses.

Is there the same sharing of info for the independent sector as well as the state sector?

It is good practice, surely?

OrmIrian · 12/03/2009 19:28

Yes. Although many schools retest anyway

Feenie · 12/03/2009 19:30

The National Data Collection Agency (or whatever they are calling themselves these days) collect the info centrally and send the SAT result and the Teacher Assessment to the high school.

ramonaquimby · 12/03/2009 19:31

we baseline all students in year 7

seeker · 13/03/2009 00:08

I would hope so. What's the point of doing them otherwise?

In some schools, setting is dependant upon SATS scores, but in ds's, they didn't set until year 8 and did MIDYIS tests in the first term of year 7 anyway.

I personally think that it's good that the secondary school know the SATs scores for incoming pupils.

At our primary, they pass on the SATs results to secondary schools but the schools also retest themselves. Most of the children from our primary go on to one secondary so the head of year from that school also comes in and meets with the Yr6 teachers to discuss each student in more detail.

The dc's prep school don't do SATS so for the ones that go on to a state secondary and a few do as there is a grammar locally they can;t pass them on.

The secondaries re-test with CATS anyway according to dh who works in secondary schools.
