Year 7 - ten hours core entitlement - what is this?

Apparently it includes 2 hrs a week each of Maths, English and Science. What is the rest?

Does anyone know, or can anyone link, to details as to what schools are obliged (Statutory) to provide in terms of subjects and curriculum hours.

Thank you

PE is supposed to be 2hrs per week, if I remember rightly?

Would PSCHE and RE be part of it as well?

roisin · 02/03/2009 20:44

I don't know! I thought there were rules about all sorts of subject; all KS3 students had to do music, art, and MFL. But I've tried googling and can't find any details.

Until tonight I'd never heard of this 'core entitlement'.

Is anyone else able to advise?

Is thie it?

Clause 44: Duties in relation to the core and additional entitlements

  1. This clause inserts four new sections (sections 17A, 17B, 17C, 17D) into the Education Act 1996. It places responsibility for securing the core entitlement and the additional entitlement (defined in section 17A(7)) for all young people who are over compulsory school age but under 19, on local education authorities (rather than the Learning and Skills Council, where the responsibility currently lies).

  2. The core entitlement is to a course of study in mathematics, English and information and communications technology.
