I have a class on Tuesday and I have to teach about suffering from a Christian perspective, as part of a scheme on Martin Luther King. The SOW is quite vague, suggesting pupils produce a poem or story, we have a computer room booked. Any ideas? Its not my subject and I'm struggling...

OOh interesting.

I'd be looking at some 'made up' examles and asking pupils to give Christian and non- Christian perspectives on them ( tkae a few and pass them into small groups)- use the 'standards': a aprent who can't afford the medication to save their dying cjild but knows where its is and can steal it; that sort of thing.

I'd want to start with a case study to demnstrate the thinking porcesses and produce a checklist of ideas to go by if that makes sense?

I think I get you, so start with moral dilemma, whole class discussion, brainstorm ideas. Then look at other examples in pairs and finally have them produce there own story?? I could find some civil rights stories I guess...

That sounds interesting, there is a massive need for decent RE teachers, our school has gone through 5 in the last 3 years, 1 was excellent, 3 were truly very, very odd!

Right
Starter - what is suffering? Differnt stories divided into types - people caused, natural, unexplained/bad luck
Christian perspectives - Discuss how Christians explain suffering
MLK - Need to act to stop suffering - maybe look at other Christians, Mother Teresa?
Pupils to write a poem or story on suffering due to racism
Plenery - share ideas
