I've not used this site but they appear to have a free 7 day trial and do the KS4 Sciences www.edplace.co.uk Don't know if it'll help.

Do you really need tuition for GCSE Science?

How far does educationcity go or is it only to Key Stage 2 or 3?

My distance learning degree uses "blackboard" a type of website along with workshops. Audio recordings of the workshops are posted on Blackboard each module has its own section on blackboard within the course section. All course materials are posted on Blackboard too along with assignments, memos, links to relevent articles and websites, tutor contact info, and any activities and work to be done etc.

Imagine it would be something similar.

Sorry as to if it works, well its down to commitment, you have to get past the distractions at home and actually log on, then actually do some work and not start checking emails and all that. If it is all kept up to date and you can send messages to tutors or other students it can be very good, it means you can access the course materials when you want and when it suits, but it is harder to get on with it sometimes with out classes to go to every week.

Online tuition only works if it done in conjunction with other methods of learning.

Most websites have a page for the course content - which he must know and remember and then a page of multiple choice questions to test knowledge. He should also be going through past exam papers which can be obtained from school if you ask nicely.
