Any info on Haberdashers' Aske's Boys secondary school ?

We have received a letter from Habs to say DS has passed exams and inviting DS for an interview next week. Anyone with experience of an interview at Habs? What is life at the school really like? Purely and academic hothouse or well-rounded?

Its a very academic school. Have you visited it?

Very academic but very well rounded. They do CCF, used to have an excellent reputation in the Model United Nations, have a good reputation for music and are quite strong in sports.

It won't suit everyone so tell DS to be himself. Get him (by himself) to think up 5 questions he'd like to ask about the school as well as the one's you'll probably tell him to ask!

I was at the girls school btw.

For very academic children (they're not hot housed though)and produce very well rounded children - excellent facilities. My dh went there so when he gets back I can post more

there was a bunch of ex habs boys at uni....they were twats.

My son got offered a place at Habs' boys'. After careful consideration we opted for St Albans - and we are very very pleased with it.

Ds is 10 (turns 11 in August). Interesting comments about Habs. Yes, we have visited the school during the open day sessions. Boys seem very confident and friendly. Facilities are very good but then that can be expected considering the level of fees to be paid.

In addition to Habs interview on Mon, DS also has interview at St Albans next week.
Will be preparing him for both and hope he gets an offer from both. Any other info about both schools?
