Hope everyone has a good week. ds1 is going on the trip on Wednesday.

There are so many 'coping strategies' that they need to acquire to survive secondary I think. I've been surprised and pleased at how well ds1 has coped. He is quite tall and confident. In the past when he's been teased it hasn't really bothered him. He's got a fantastic sense of humour and is very sharp with a cutting/witty reply, but basically he doesn't mind the fact that he is 'different', so doesn't always obsess about fitting in.

ds2 isn't like this at all, so I think he may find it a harder journey at secondary when he goes.

excellent news about the trip roisin - hoipe he enjoys it

Oh MAS dd1 would have loved that to be the case here too! We have snow but only about an inch so no enough to grind everything totally to a halt. Although as the council have not gritted ANYWHERE there is still time.

She is still not 100% and in an ideal world she would have been at home resting but.... She now has earache as well so has gone in dosed up with nurofen and with her throat aneasthetised, oh and ear muffs, so fingers crossed!

MaryAnnSingleton · 02/02/2009 09:52

poor lamb - an earache is horrid too..I remember leaning my head against radiators to ease the pain..

Polgara2 · 02/02/2009 10:07

Yes she used to be prone to terrible ear infections that always required antibiotics when she was younger so am fervently hoping that doesn't happen. She went to sleep with a wheat bag Mumbles penguin attached to her ear last night.

bellavita · 02/02/2009 12:40

No school here either!

Polgara - DS1 is prone to ear infections, he first started with them at about 6 months old.

MaryAnnSingleton · 02/02/2009 18:19

no school tomorrow according to website - so that means ds's trip to London off too

The good news - DD has been picked for the netball team.

The bad news - the match is tomorrow and the school they are playing against is 10 miles away. Chances of being cancelled anyone?

bellavita · 02/02/2009 18:33

What a shame about the school trip.

So far, DS2's school is closed tomorrow, but DS1's at the moment is not on the closed list, but we shall wait and see what 7.00am in the morning brings!

LadyGlencoraPalliser · 02/02/2009 18:33

Sorry about your DS's school trip MAS

bellavita · 02/02/2009 18:39

LGP - well done to your DD, going by today's weather and the forecast for tonight, I think there is every chance it could be cancelled.

LadyGlencoraPalliser · 02/02/2009 18:49

We don't have very much snow down here as yet Bellavita - only started about 3pm and stopped an hour later, but we may get more overnight. If it wasn't for the netball match I would be hoping for snow .

MaryAnnSingleton · 02/02/2009 19:00

LGP - well done to dd..hope snow doesn't prevent it happening though..I'm assuming ds's trip is off if school closed - it'll be a shame and I've paid a £16 contribution !

OP posts:
MaryAnnSingleton · 02/02/2009 19:01

but no fun to travel 10 miles in rotten weather !

Where was your DS going MAS?

DD's school was closed today and I've just recieved a text message from school to say it's closed gain tomorrow. apparently it's set to get worse overnight here - So i'll be trudging throw the snow to work tomorrow again!

bellavita · 02/02/2009 19:45

truding as on foot magenta?

roisin · 02/02/2009 20:19

We've no snow - we're coastal and rarely got any.

I only thought at 9.30 to check ds1's school on the website. It's only about 5 miles away, but it's 5 miles inland towards mountains and they always do get considerably more snow than we do.

Fortunately his school was open and the buses were running. I must make a mental note to check in future.

ds1 has been making a profit (c.£2-£3) each week on his lunch money and bus pass money, and I allow him to keep the surplus. On Wednesday his weekly bus pass is going up from £8.50 - £9.00. Am I mean if I don't give him any extra?

(He gets £20 per week to pay for 5 lunches and his bus pass.)

magentadreamer · 02/02/2009 20:49

Yup on foot! It's normally a 15 min walk took 35 mins this morning at there forcasting another 6 inches or so. This morning I walked past a police car stuck going up the hill and a lorry thinking about going down - tis only a small main road! The lorry apparently got stuck.

MaryAnnSingleton · 02/02/2009 21:32

He was going to the Cabinet War Rooms - shame really as they're fascinating - suppose it might get rescheduled- the groups due to go on Wednesday will probably make it.

roisin - see if he asks for an increase !

Oh my what a proud mum I am! Have just received a letter from dd1's school congratulating her on her excellent work in maths! Wow! Now maths has never been dd1's strong point, she can always do it but it never came naturally, unlike her English, iyswim. Up until last year that is, when she had an absolutely fabby year 6 teacher and she just clicked and flew with it. She is going to be sooooo pleased and she doesn't even like her new maths teacher so am really glad that it's not affecting her work.

bellavita · 04/02/2009 13:26

Polgara - How lovely for you and your DD , celebration tea tonight perhaps?

LadyGlencoraPalliser · 04/02/2009 13:34

That's great Polgara. Well done to your DD.
