How often do you hand out excellents in reports?

depends on whom i writing it for

ceciliaaherne · 19/11/2008 22:57

When they are deserving of it, either in ability or endeavour but I am not stingy with them, reserving them for exceptional cases, which I wonder if you are asking.

christywhisty · 19/11/2008 23:42

Just trying to work out if DS's report is what he should be getting. I don't have anything to compare it to. He is top set hugely improved above average secondary school.

lucky old you...excellent = excellent but satisfactory means pretty crap in my book tho

twinsetandpearls · 20/11/2008 00:01

I only ever say excellent when I mean excellent. Satisfactory means scraping by.

christywhisty · 20/11/2008 00:04

What would you be satisfied with asdmumandteacheror and any other parents

they mark

1= Excellent
2= Very Good
3= Good
4= Satisfactory
5= Unsatifactory

with seperate marks for

effort
coursework/homework
behaviour
Attendance/punctuality
Preperation/orgnaisation

I would only be happy with 1s and 2s.

squeakypop · 20/11/2008 07:19

For attainment, I would use Excellent if they were tracking A*, VG for A, Good for B, Adequate for C, Concern for D and below.

For effort and all the other categories, I tend to use VG as my standard and then work up or down from there.

magentadreamer · 20/11/2008 07:26

I don't think you can just take the 1-5 marks on their own. If DD got a satisfactory plus a good mark for effort in a subject she struggled in I'd be please that she'd been trying her best. Likewise if she got a very good but a poor mark for effort I'd be questioning why. I think how much effort a child puts in is just as important as overall grades not all DC's will be straight A* students but as long as Dd was putting in 100% effort in subjects I'd be pleased. DD will probably never be a great linguist but I was very pleased to see she got a + for effort in her half term grades for MFL. They give out 3 effort grdes at DD's school a plus a satisfactory and a minus.
