Seatbelts on school buses...do your DCs wear them?

If you ask them to be honest, my guess is they don't. It worries me. The drivers do ask them to but do not enforce it. Or am I being paranoid? I see them wandering round the buses, standing up round corners... without embarrassing my DCs, what can I do? They would never do this in a car...

Our school bus driver usually stops at the nearest safe place, screams at the kid to "putcha seatbelt on or we're not going anyway", other kids get fed up of waiting so tell kid to "putcha seatbelt on". And off they merrily go.

Usually they are pretty good though. Short of driving them yourself, not a lot you can do.

Wish they did that more often, ours just get left to their own devices. When I tackle the DCs they just state its not 'cool' to put their belts on if noone else is...

No DD1 doesn't either. I did call the school to complain that some days she didn't even have a seat . The school told me that all pupils on her bus should have a seat (12 mile journey) but that on some of the shorter routes there are more bus passes issued than seats available to some children do have to stand. They now check passes so she does now get a seat, but even on short journeys I think standing is really not on.

Yes but our children have seats and belts, just don't belt up. What can I do about it?

If they don't have their seatbelts on, the bus doesn't move.

The driver doesn't enforce it, you've told your children they should be wearing seatbelts - they don't. You could call the school and ask them to ensure the driver does enforce it. Other than that unless you get on the bus with your children and strap them in there is nothing you can do.
