Music lessons - advice please.

My dd has a weekly 30 minute clarinet lesson. It would suit us much better if she had an hour a fortnight instead. Is this a good idea? She loves her lessons and I'm sure she could manage to concentrate for an hour, and as the second half of the lesson often consists of her and the teacher playing/improvising together an hour might give them more time to do this. She's 12 and Grade 4.
Does anybody have any advice for me before I ring her teacher?

I've heard fortnightly lessons can work well for older more experienced players who don't need such regular feedback. Whether 12 & grade 4 counts as that I don't know - I'd have thought it was a bit borderline to be honest.

I think the issue is whether your DD might end up practicing something "wrongly" for the two weeks, rather than whether she can concentrate for an hour at a stretch. I think only her teacher would be able to say whether she thought DD would continue to make good progress without the weekly reminder/"checkup" of the lesson or not, so you'd really have to ask whether the teacher thinks it would be a good idea in tihs case.

My DS has guitar lessons about fortnightly, with a certain "randomness" to the timings (!) and it works fine for him, but then he's been learning instruments for about 8 years now so that might make a difference.

if my two had fortnightly lessons, they wouldn't do any practice during the first week, as they'd think they had the second week to catch up. So for us it wouldn't work as they need the nagging gentle reminders from me that their lessons are soon, and they haven't practiced. Both are G4 btw

We're going to give it a try. She's quite motivated about practicing - and will be even more so when she gets the saxophone we've bought her for her birthday! As her teacher points out, she can have half an hour clarinet, half an hour saxophone. Hope it works.
