Right, any teachers. WHY do frickkin targets exist???? To torment us, that's why!

I have a bunch of lazy kids who never met their target grade at GCSE (hollow laugh).

Short of doing the work for them, I did EVERYTHING I could. And they still couldn't be bothered. And it is MY fault apparently.

Where do these targets come from? Well, I mean I know where they come from, but why do they so often bear no relation to the little treasure sat in front of you. Why do I have to justify EVERY single one

I would like the twat who thought this fun thing up, to become a target for me to practise knife throwing at (or darts, I'm not choosy)

Is it just a "fashion" in education or here to stay for ever?

I don't give the targets. They come from the number crunchers..........I just have to meet them

In our school in some subject the teacher/student actually have some input in the subject, but for core subjects it's all done by some maniacal computer programme, which seems to have no concept whatsoever of realistic progress for the kind of students we have! And those targets cannot be changed in any way.

Malory- if you are my job share then I delegate to you the meeting where you have to swallow all attempts at rational discussion and give the parents the ridiculously shite targets. I am too embarrassed to do it.. besides the meeting is at the end of the week so YOURS.

I do, however LOVE the meeting when the kids' teachers give me said targets and we all try not to howl hysterically. Some years ago dd's target was " to start speech on a new line when writing dialogue..."

Do you also have to do a shite display so that children can measure their progress against said target each nanosecond of the day?

We have no hanging stuff, teeny tiny display boards, no blue tack or staples in the whole school. Tis a crime.
