Am i right to be miffed that dd cant get GCSE result

DD (and others in her year) took an early GCSE in year 10. They have gone along to school this morning to get their results (some have taken 2) and have been told they're not allowed. They have to wait until the start of the term yet they are being given out to year 11s. This seems a little mean especially as they have been returned with year 11 results.

It is bedlam on GCSE results day. It really is. I can sort of understand why the school doesn't want the extra work.

Jampot this is so unfair. DD got the results for her year 10 early GCSE's on the same day as year 11,s last year. It cant be that much extra work.

It is a very, very busy morning. You have to manually put together the kids results....which are often from different exam boards so come on numerous bits of paper.

We had a yearly intake of 240, each of whom would do 9 GCSEs 2160 bits of paper to sort into alphabetical order. you have to check them all off lists, to make sure that they have arrived and are correct. you then have to hand them all out and deal with the emotional drama that often entails

and the staff who go in do so on a voluntary basis.

It takes from about 8.30 to 11, when the results are given out, working flat out. I've done it and I'm not exaggerating

My dd did some GCSEs a year early and she had to wait to get the results through the post. Having been this morning to pick up her GCSE results for year 11 I am not now surprised that they only allow the year 11s. It was chaos there with lots of cars and parents, and screaming girls!

You are probably best out of the chaos!

my dd got sent hers last yr when she did maths early...seems a shame but I agree with MB it's increasing the workload having all these kids take their exams early.

I agree that it increases the workload of the teachers but in all fairness having to do a GCSE a year early increases the children's workload too. It's only fair they get their results on the same day or at least posted to them the next day rather than have to wait a couple of weeks.

Last year DD (year 9) got the result by post the day after so hopefully will get this years in tomorrows post. Better staying away and leave the year 11's to have their celebrations etc

my yr 10 DS did significant GCSE modules but they were told at the time that they wouldn't get the results til September as their exams would be marked after the yr 11 GCSEs. Tho sounds a little odd in your DD's case if she did a full GCSE a year early. I did my maths a year early and got results at the same time as everyone else. But they were O'levels back then and a whole different world! Fingers crossed that she gets the result she is hoping for when it comes!

When I took DS1 for his results yesterday, the place was absolutely heaving because the Year 10s were there too to get their Science, French and RS results.

We were in the same boat last year, of course.

I was hanging around for 45 minutes for DS to reappear, and it was agony!

I don't think it's a big deal to wait for results that aren't immediately impactful on the future (the Y11s need to confirm A-level choices ASAP), as any uncollected results are posted home the same day.

DS1 didn't want to go into school to pick up his AS results last week, and they were with us Friday morning - we survived.
